Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

That brought an instant - and unexpected - lump to my throat. I doubt that it was your intention to deliver such a shock, but these three simple lines demonstrate the power of exceptionally well-placed words. I rarely award a six for a 5-7-5 poem, but yours deserves it. This entry is a strong contestant, and I wish you success - there's always an element of luck required in the voting, no matter how good the entry is.

I'm sorry for the loss of your obviously much-loved gentlemanly dog.

Harry,

I thought I already reviewed this post. Weird! This is a cool ode to a beloved pet. I'm so sorry you've lost him. Losing a beloved pet is never easy. Good luck in the contest!

Aw. I love this well chosen image. Whitey was obviously very special. I love the idea of born a dog and evolving into a special friend. The phrase 'died a gentleman' made me think of the story 'Greyfriars Bobby'. Best of luck in the contest.

This 5-7-5 poem about a pet, Whitey, reminds me of my own white lab, Lacey. She died still a princess at fifteen. I teared up more for that, I think, than my parents' funerals.

Yes, a pet can tap into one's emotions. Thanks for the read. I had an Airedale and experienced similar feelings.

A well-written contest entry. I think you completed the challenge of the contest very well. Your words flowed well and combined easily forming the message of the poem for the reader.

I love the paw/hand reference. To be adopted by an animal is the most profound thing. I'm sure your Whitey was a gentleman. Beautifully written. Marilyn

Vale Whitey. Some pets become more than just animal companions as I have found .
I have known a rabbit shed tears of joy when re-united with her litter of kittens. I had a cat that got into a box of little chickens to keep them warm. Not one was lost to cold or Pussycat depredations. The few words of your Haiku tells Whitey's story very well. From the look of the size of the paw in the hand I'd say he was a big dog.Big dogs usually have an innate dignity and gentleness and I have feeling that sums Whitey up pretty well. Cheers Cass
