Oh, April - you brought tears to my
eyes - to have found that Valentine
message from your beloved son must
have been heart-breaking and yet, at the
same time. a joy in remembering that
your son loves you.

Love Lives ON

Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one's gone...

Those we love can never be
more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory,
they'll live on in the heart.

Blessings,
Margaret

Thank you, Margaret. Thanks for the lovely poem, it touched me very much. This was an extremely hard story to write but I had the strangest feeling that my son wanted it written. Does that sound strange to you?
reply by Margaret Snowdon on 25-Jan-2017
Not at all - perhaps it is his way to let you know he is all right and wants you to know he's thinking of you, April. Blessings, my friend. Margaret

What a touching story. You are so courageous to write about finding the special Valentine from your son. I think you did a beautiful job writing this piece and pulled me into the deep emotions you were experiencing.

Thank you. It was a hard story to write. Thanks for the catch, I will edit and fix. I didn't edit yesterday because I had to recover from the emotion of writing this.

so I'm in tears writing this. I can only imagine how hard it was for you. I don't think any Mom ever recovers from the pain of losing a child. I like how you wove the story starting with a normal tour of the attic and the past and then the very hard memory. Yes, I'm sure Roy knows and perhaps this story is your valentine to him.

Thank you. I must ask you why you gave me a poor rating on this writing. It is well written with few if any errors. I felt it was an excellent job and certainly deserves more than a poor rating. Everyone but you gave it a five or a six. Half of them are sixes. What is your problem with this story?
reply by lyenochka on 25-Jan-2017
I thought I gave it a six! I went back to see what the rating was and it had NO rating. Somehow I thought it would have stopped me. I changed it to 5 because my list of options only went that far but I thought I had another. Sorry for the misunderstanding! Blessings to you and prayers for your comfort!

Thank you. So sorry I bitched at you but that story is kind of special to me. They usually do stop you but the rating showed one star when I read it. No hard feelings, accidents happen.

Well, computer accidents happen more than others. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will have to double-check the ratings box each time I save.

Well this story made my day. I shed tears as I read it. We have four children, and have never lost a child, but it has to be the hardest thing next to a mate we have to bear in our human life. I am a strong believer in God, and I know he helps us to heal in time. Yet life is precious from conception on. I am voting in the contest, and you sure get my vote. I pray that God gives you strength, and courage as the days go by. A good cry is good for the soul, no one should ever be beyond crying.

Thank you. One never gets over losing a child and I'm glad you have never had to face such a thing. It is worse then one can explain. I thought I could handle looking at the contents of that box after thirty years, wrong.

I pray for you my friend, may God bless you richly, and help you carry all your burdens. Have a beautiful year.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked the story about my son. I miss him more than words can describe.

I understand. My grandmother was my favorite person in the world. When she passed I was shattered. I still miss her more than words can describe. Maybe we can find at least some healing together. Peace and blessing. Petra

Oh, dear friend, I think you have sent a Valentine wish back to your precious son with the writing of this marvelous piece. (I can't type for the tears in my eyes. I lost my son too, but when he was just an infant - it's different, though still too painful to talk about very much). I remember reading something of your son's accident some time ago.

This is an amazing write, made all the more exceptional by the fact that it took pure heart to write it, yet it's clear and heartwarming. God bless, and good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the six stars, my friend. This story was one of the hardest I have ever written. I wanted others to know about my son and his wonderful Valentine and I felt that Roy would want the story told.

Hi PRETTYBLUEBIRD,
OMG, you have just brought me to tears. What a heart wrenching story. As you have said, this must have been so hard for you to write. I can not even imagine what heartache you must have gone through as you went through that box.
I'm so sorry you lost your son in such tragic circumstances. I think that possibly you were meant to find that letter, especially at that particular time. It just goes to show that they are never far away. This was beautifully written.

Thank you for the six stars and your uplifting comments. It was hard to write but I had the feeling that Roy wanted the story told. Does that sound silly to you?
reply by brenda bickers on 25-Jan-2017
No Honey that does not sound silly to me. I think we get messages all the time from the other side but we do not always recognise them. I really believe that there is existence beyond our leaving this place. What would be the point otherwise. It was a beautiful story.xx

I could easily understand why this would be a difficult story to write but you did an amazing job of telling it with straightforward language and no unnecessary words whatsoever. I don't think it would be possible to read this without shedding a tear. The emotions were clear and unmistakable. Superior work and well worth six stars. Now I have to find some Kleenex. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you, my friend. I didn't mean to make anyone cry, I did enough of that for all of us. I had the feeling that Roy wanted this story written so I wrote it. Thank you for the six stars.

A very well written piece which I thank you for sharing. The words flow well and convey the myriad of emotions associated with confronting the pain of loss and the joy of memories.

Best of luck in the contest

Thank you, Rhonda. You can't imagine how hard this story was to write. You would think that after 30 years I would have it together a little more. Finding that Valentine just blew my mind. Maybe I needed the reminder and a good cry. I felt better after the crying jag and writing the story.
