LOL! This is a clever, sweet and creative ABC poem and a delightful story.

Well done from beginning to end.

Thank you!! All these reviews have me floored!!

Anything with rules/structure - limiting me in any way but especially short lengths - I pretty much avoid at all cost (unless I WANT to do it VS. having no choice per se).

I don't post anything unless I love it like no other myself - but never imagined everyone or even just a few would love this as much as I did/do!! Thanks again & again!!! :)

JPilcher, how cute. I'm not very quick when I read something.
I had to look at it a second time and go back over my ABC's to
figure it out. Nice entry for the ABC poetry contest and about
the ABCs.

You're certainly not slow either & it wasn't "obvious" to catch by any means. I knew that before posting it & had considered revising beforehand (for far too long!) for that very reason but - stuck with my gut & glad I did too!! :)

I seriously have never received responses like I have for this EVER - nor did I expect it. Same goes for winning this contest or any other - just like to challenge myself for the most part.

I got my win already by writing something I loved enough myself to even post (won't post otherwise) - but these reviews are like having Christmas Day over & over again. :) <3

This is sooo cute!
Listen to a kindergartner say the Pledge of Allegiance and you get the same humor...
Kids live in their own worlds...My son thought that all of the world was a play and everyone acted for him...
He knew Shakespeare before he could read..smile..
Funny and cute poem

I keep texting my Dad & step mom telling them about all these reviews - as if she hadn't already loved our story enough (me too of course!), but then for me to write about it out of no where at 37 yrs. old & for her to get to read it was more than she could've imagined - & then to see me floored by all the reactions & all excited is like the best icing on the best cake ever for all of us pretty much.

Thanks for reading & reviewing!! I could've never imagined that seeing this, instantly thinking of that "ABC" story of mine & posting (my 1st ever of this type too pretty sure - cause I hate structure of any sort when it comes to me writing!) would have ever resulted in this. That alone made my 2017 & its still January!!! :) <3

JP: this is a darling story and I'm sure many children can relate. Who
took your card? Big things get bigger when something is lost or missing.
You were trying to memorize the letters. Maybe, you had pictures on the
cards. The rhymes go fast M N O P when we say these.

Great entry. Have a blessed New Year! flylikeaneagle
Welcome to FS!

There was totally pictures on my cards, yes!! If I recall correctly, each letter was represented by like an animal, fruit etc. :)

Thanks for reading & reviewing!! Beyond appreciated!!! :)

I didn't quite get it at first until I read the notes that followed your poem. But now the fog has cleared and I can actually see the humor in this piece as well. This was an excellent piece of story telling in poetic form, I enjoyed reading it... John

Thank you!! Very much appreciated!!! PS: Thought about making it a tad easier, but then I left it 'cause that's the story - plus everyone else gets a little experience of that confusion I had back then too that way!!! ;)

language acquisition is one of the great miracles of childhood, but along the way many mistakes are made as we learn by trial and error. Your little tale, retold in ABC form here, relates a natural mistake to a small child, but one that must have appeared hilarious to any adults.

It reminds me of this little gem...

ABCD goldfish.
MNO goldfish.
SAR CDBD eyes

Hey, JPilcher.
Long time, no see.
I believe this is the very first time I've seen an ABC poem applied to free verse.
But hell, that's okay, ain't no laws against it as far as I know.
See, like you, I always thought the letter "P" came before the word "minnow" too.
All of my relatives would say, "Yeah, gimme a bologna and P-minnow cheese samitch any day a' the week!" So, Pimento Cheese became pa-minnow cheese, and the rest, well...you obviously already know.
Good luck to you in your contest.

I'm so lmfao off right now BTW Re: Basically everything you said - but yes, nice catch on that whole free verse thing you mentioned too (only one other person has too btw). I like to consider myself, not a rule breaker - but more so a walker arounder if the chance is presented -
    & it was so.. ;)

PS: I've only done a handful of reviews since logging in for far too long - but reserving some time this weekend to catch up on all my favorite "peeps" stuff & I can't wait (when doing those recent reviews though I already had inadvertantly managed to hit at least one of you unknowingly I think.. Lol!). <3

The story is very charming. It takes one a while to understand the alphabetic nature of "minnow." However, this is the first time I believe I have seen an ABC poem applied to free verse.

Nice catch Re: Free verse (& here I was thinking an ABC poem about ABC's was epic in itself! Hah!). What can I say, I'm a fly by the seat of whatever pants, skirt, or dress I feel like wearing kinda girl!! Lol!!!

Thanks for reading & reviewing!!! :)

Excellent poem. Well told. Sometimes our children come up with what should be obvious. If minnow has always come up before P, why not now.

I know right?! Thanks so much for taking the time to read & review!! I'm that girl who avoids anything with structure (unless it's my own! Hah!) but most especially anything limited me length or syllable wise so.... Everyone's feedback tells me I might be getting more comfortable with it all - which is HUGE to me!! :) <3

What a cute ABC entry! Such delightful memories, they do make the best poems, don't they? I enjoyed this, good luck in the contest, blessings...
