Hi Mary, how interesting and mystical. great presentation and in 4 stanzas you told us quite a lot of Irish History. I bet it is a stunning sight and would love to see it. (Visited Ireland in 1977 with my husband and 2 friends we travelled around Europe. England Ireland and Scotland for 6 months in all in a camper van I loved Ireland and of course have kissed the Blarney Stone LOL that was interesting. I love a good Irish Coffee too Cheers to you Christine

Comment from Gloria ....
Yes, this is a terrific poem with some excellent Irish history. Being Irish myself, of course I enjoy the rich mythology.
And another I enjoy thoroughly is when the days start getting longer again.
Thank you so much for sharing this beauty. :))

It's amazing, Mary, that so many civilizations
have focused on this phenomena. More than
72 celebrations around the world take place at
this time. -Bill

Nollaig Mhaith Chugat , Mary; (A Good Christmas to you, Mary {in Gaelic});
-I really enjoyed your winter solstice poem and found that not only very interesting but very well written as it definitively express the wonders of Irish folklore and mythical history what you brought up in your author's notes.
-The last two verses were really beautiful and probably something that the Irish people normally would say during the winter solstice when surrounded by the stones of Stonehenge.
-Thanks for sharing and have a very Merry Christmas and a glorious and joyous new year, Mary.

Mary,
I very much enjoyed reading your graceful and
informative free verse poem. Very interesting
subject and wonderful photo too.
I enjoyed your fine imagery in this and
distinctive word choices and combinations.
I like the spirituality of this piece as well.
" upright stones awaits the Sun"
In the line above, I believe 'upright stones (await) the sun'
is more correct.
Anyway, I'm delighted to have found this.
Sometimes that's the plus of putting a poem
up top, you get to meet wonderful poets
like yourself.
Beautiful!

Thanks for your notes to remind us about Ireland's long, mythological history. The picture you selected echoes that idea well. I liked the way you conveyed the awe of our natural world. (In the third stanza, I think "await" picked up an unneeded "s".) I am glad you were inspired by the Winter Solstice to conjure this descriptive poem. Cheers- Joan

I love to read about the history of Ireland, all the myths and beliefs. This is a wonderful Winter Solstice poem, the longest night of the year! I love winter, and the night, so I guess I need to celebrate this!!! Great poem, blessings...

Beautifully done this piece of history from past to nowadays. The Solstice happens four times a year changing the scenery. Seasons are responsible for that and observed thru ancient stones. The sun rises and reflects thru small openings. Exquisite. Thank you for sharing your ancestry. Blessings, Ella

Lovely poem, I like the first stanza very much.
I think you have forgotten the apostrophe in 'winter's day'.
Is that a prehistoric mound in the picture? Where is it?
Thanks for sharing.
