The imagery of greed is consistent throughout the poem and the scenarios of wanting things are varied. The materialism and attitude to acquire are evident examples of greed and the interesting thing about all of the verses is that there is no desire expressed for human involvement or friendship. Greed is cold is the message I get.

Yes a realistic look at aspects of one of those seven deadly sins that seems to dominate and even destroy our peace of mind -namely Greed-the couplet however expresses Hope of release from this dire sin
