Hi there,
I think I read the following piece first. This is a good way of addressing some of these 'thorny' issues. It's hard to get a truthful and unbiased message across to people these days when the victim mentality is so prevalent.
and the Republicans thoughts - I think you need an apostrophe here.
Another good thought provoking piece.

Immigration used to be an open door. Decades later the door begin to close and laws were instituted. This is very well witten.

This is excellent; very thought-provoking.
1) I think you meant "rapt" attention, not 'apt'...?
2) comma after "Congress"
3) comma after "...give my life for him(,)
4) This is my suggestion for expressing this sentence: "I think you know-- and now we all know--who did."
5) comma after "lawyer"
I truly enjoyed this, lancellot. I like how you think.

This is a very thoughtful and thought-provoking write. You make you points eloquently and with great wisdom. It is easy to get caught up in all the passions of the situation--fear of the family being broken up, or deportation, or pride for accomplishments and good citizenship. The congressman gives a wee thought out answer and offers to help, even though the audience could have gotten out of hand on the issue.
Excellent job defining the characters and setting the stage. The script wasenjoyable to read. Wish I had a six left at the of the week for his one.

The congressman had a well thought out response to Maria.
This will be a debated subject for months by the "entitled."

That is the most intelligent response to the immigration problem that I have ever been a witness to. It was balanced, empathetic, direct and on point. It was level headed, undramatic and it pointed to the pure undiluted truth. No one could or should ever ask for more.

An interesting take on the situation of the many people in Maria's situation. Can you imagine being raised in a country, you might not ever have been to your parents' country of origin, or know their language well. I like the idea of legal residence for people like this, possibly without citizenship. Who am I to say send them "home"? My grandparents came here as children, I don't feel complacent about my place here.
Nice job with this controversial topic,
Carol
