Miss Scenario with draw the reader in: "But she grabbed the shoes and told me never to touch them again." They will be invited to speculate as to why the shoes are so precious: "But she grabbed the shoes and told me never to touch them again." At least she didn't enforce the culture: "So, when my great grandmother had her own daughter, she didn't make her bind her feet"
This has a good resolution.

Excellent entry. It is childlike and consistent. I found no mistakes. I like the part at the end where she didn'the want to wear them anyways..

I have big feet too! No matter how hard I try, the only thing I ever accomplished of note with them was my innate ability to stick it in my mouth. It was a brutal tradition in China, here the closest we have are high heel shoes :). Nice woman's empowerment piece slipped in under the guise of a little girl :).

This is lovely! I feel sick when I think of the way Chinese and Japanese mothers had to break the bones in their daughters feet, so that they would have the chance of a "good" marriage. Thank goodness that has receded into history.

I have big feet; big, healthy feet that were allowed to run around shoeless when I was a child.

Thank you for sharing this superb story "though the eyes of a child. I hope you win the contest. I must make sure to vote.

I found two messages behind this story. First, we should be grateful for our way of life. Second, a change invoked by just one person can benefit generations for centuries to come. You got this all in a short story. Nice work.
