An excellent poem! Great work with the syllables and rhyming simultaneously. I really like this style of poetry and you did a great job with it. Best of luck in the contest!

Beautifully written poem. The picture meets the words perfectly. The poem brings life to it words that are felt and visualized.

Beautiful, mighty lion...fierce beast
His roars are loud before the feast
Walks with pride displaying skill
Lie in wait just to kill
Rummages his way -
seeking his prey
Just to stalk
one more
day

A lion os one of the three animals I wanted to have as companions when I was a chjld. Since then I've come to terms with the fact that what my mum said was right...

This is a lovely nonet, beautifully presented with a gorgeous header image.

One suggestion:-

Lie in wait just to kill

Should that be:-

Lies in wait just to kill

Thank you for sharing this great poem about the king of the beasts.

It occurs to me that animals seem to be better at listening to their mothers than humans - that's what comes of having a "superior" intellect...

Congratulations on your silver medal placing in this contest. A well deserved award for this dissertation in nonet style on the king of the beasts. That is apparently absolute nonets and he is more likely to drive a successful hunter off its prey than to do the work himself. Also the lioness is more likely to do any hard work like hunting leaving the actual eating to the lion.

Never mind the zoology. This is poetry and there he is undisputed king of the beasts.

PHarp, a good nonet for the writing prompt entry. Spot on with
your syllable count. I like your author notes. Certainly you
should admire them from afar. When we lived in Africa we went
to a game park. We were having worship service on a Sunday
morning and heard lions roaring. We sang Safe in the Arms of
Jesus and then departed.

    Heyjude,

I read you can hear the roar of a lion five miles away. I would have been right with you singing and departing. Thanks so much for your review and very kind comments, they are greatly appreciated. Blessings..........Portia

A brilliant poem about the mighty king of the jungle. I agree with you, lion is such a beautiful animal, I also admire this creature. This is well crafted, nice form, good choice of words and well rhymed too. Thanks for sharing. Well done, mate.

This animal nonet depicts the lion in all of his majesty. He is indeed a mighty animal to be admired from afar. I envision him stalking a prey. You have followed the rules. I wish you good luck in the contest.

-Beautiful image and presentation.
-I find the big cats are magnificent and fascinating.
-The format is good, as well as the use of rhyme.
-Your nonet begins very well with vivid imagery.
-I think you also have good characteristics of the lion, too, like
pride, and stalking prey.
-Well done; good luck.

Congratulations on your second place finish
for this fine nonet with some bonus rhymes
That's quite a picture of the lion
looks like he's just come out of a beauty parlor
Good use of the word "pride"
I think the females are the real hunters
His Majesty simply arrives in time to eat
True royalty
Well done
