I don't know when an election has generated so much anguish on the voters' part and so much animosity on the candidates' parts. There is a clear choice between candidates but that's not necessarily helpful to the voter. The choice to vote or not to vote is important because not only is it a right and a privilege but also a responsibility. The message in the poem is to fulfill your responsibility as a voter. The short lines and simple verses emphasize that this is like a list of complaints more than an examination of the choices.
