And you had a typo in alternative in the last paragraph. I was just at MSN and Trump was making his acceptance speech. No matter how much the media half-truthed and lied and slandered him, I could not bring myself to vote for him. I would not have voted for FDR or Reagan, either, for the same reasons. And of course the media and populace will turn like a mad pack on a president with the congress in his party. I'm

As I sit here in shock and awe watching the results, safe to say I'm blown away. I'm not a fan of either candidate, and however it ends, the democracy has the ability to correct itself in four years.

Donald Trump is an entertainer, and as one, he will say anything to get the applauds. I don't like it when Trump or his surrogates tell me my ears didn't hear what they heard when he said something offensive. Whether he wins or loses, this country has already lost a lot in this last year. That's dignity and respect here and around the world. While you might not have changed the minds of the staunch Trump supporters, I tip my hat at you for trying. If Hillary wasn't running, I would vote for you.

This is one of the best political commentaries I've read this election season. You touched on the fierce outrage I feel over Trump's attitude toward women, since 1 in 4 women are raped/sexually assaulted (I have been cursed often with that lifetime legacy, too). There's too much rage inside me about this aspect of our election, so that I cannot even discuss it. That's why it feels good that you've expressed it with a perfect balance of outrage, but also calm reasoning. I follow your reasoning & I like it. I also like that you covered a multitude of Trump's other shortcomings by posing things as thought-provoking questions (not being preachy). Of course, his supporters seem to be adverse to truth or introspection, so you are probably right that your message will not change any hearts. But it needs to be said. And you said it well.

A lot of good material that you bring up, and I am sure it doesn't matter who I vote for, California is a democratic state. I am just glad that all the back biting and mud slinging will end today, or will it? I hope we can still be friends but I have to be honest with you, I'm for Trump.

With today being election day I have to say, this election cycle can't be over soon enough. Both these candidates or poor choices. This election cycle has done nothing but fracture, divide and expose a very ugly underbelly of this country. At this point it is not an issue of candidates or parties, it goes far beyond that. We need serious change, not political, but as a people, as a species. We need to change the way we think, the way we live, and the way we treat each other.

The writing is fine, and the article flows, which is very difficult when writing about something where feelings and emotions run high.
One thing I have learned is never to assume that people know best. As we found in the Brexit vote, facts, figures, data, and logic don't amount to much when it comes to emotion. In the UK referendum, the remain campaign would muster the data and all the leave campaign would say is "that's not right". They wouldn't provide alternative data, and that - regardless of which side of the divide you are on - often works. Why? Because people just want reassurance and don't want to think things through. If a man running for President says: "Trust me, I'll see that everything is okay", or a Brexiteer says the same thing, some people will believe it because they want to, and, to that end, many will bury the unpleasant facts.
After all, we are just children pretending to be grown-up. We don't want our mums and dads telling us why we can't afford that new bike, we want them to get us the bike, and, because we are children, we don't need to know the cost.
