Oh wow, I can see why this poem was a winner! It held he captivated throughout. You don't know why the man was murdered by his wife, but the fact that it happened is brought up. I like the way he talks about the different people who stopped by to see him, and how he wanted to "see" his twin sister before the lid was closed. Then he slipped away to Heaven.
Very nicely penned, and deserving of a six!
Take care,
Rhonda

What a crazy thing death would be if that casket opening period really did let a corpse ruminate about those who came to pay respects. Here, your narrator/corpse looks for his twin and his murdering wife, comments on the actions and experience of people like Sally-Sue, crack addict, and John who didn't like him in real life. It appears not all are there because he was loved by them. The corpse closes his thoughts by telling us that his faith is real and in a way the closing of the coffin suddenly doesn't seem so damning, but an act of finality and peace.
A terrific idea for this contest. Much enjoyed.

A most unusual poem from the perspective of a deceased person. The poem could be the pilot of a television series with all of the characters represented. You told a story that left me wanting to read to the end. God changed his life and he forgave all that betrayed him and now he is ready to ascend to a higher state of grace. The poem was tragic and humorous at the same time. Excellent work from an accomplished poet.

Wow, a dramatic story all in verse! I enjoyed the humor and also the encouragement that one can be saved without physical confirmation while still alive on earth. The picture was perfect, too!

As I read this satirical poem I couldn't help but think of the Chrismas Carol written by Lewis Carroll. If on
y we could have a second chance.

Everybody wants to go to Heaven, just not right now. Been some good stories about forgiving ghosts. I suppose we see now through a glass darkly...to prompt, and excellent rhyming quatrains.

What a wonderful poem about death. Death is never desired, and most are afraid of it. But to know that your soul is going to be with God, gives comfort. Very well done in style, verse and words chosen.
