An interesting glimpse into the life, hardships and wonderings of a family in a land down under. One I have always been curious about, ut will never visit. Blessings, Barbara. Xo

Thanks Barbara thee are more earlier chapters mentioning other trip times. I do hope to get my wife's "Our Trip Book" up on here eventually.

This captures elements of modern day travel. An obsession with the travel itself, the distances covered, unroll and unroll like trophies in a sporting event. The relatives visited are checked off as if they are on a list. There is little description of the interaction, except the encounter with the rude hotel operator. The effect is one of distance and isolation, we feel like we are always in that car, with the doors closed and the windows rolled up. We hardly see the scenery or acknowledge the passing communities except in name. The only time we delve in there is near the end when we find the mayor of this town erases the headstone of the ancestor, effectively cutting these people off from their roots. it leaves us permanently searching for something, our roots, our family connections, without ever getting there. Much like modern life. Interesting. estory

Thanks for the detailed review. Being disabled we have a lot of limitations others don't have. Thanks again.

We sort of like some long trips - as we have an RV which is so useful. I understand your limitations - and I'm sure it's frustrating to try and figure out accomodations. You speak of kangeroos leaping across the road - here in the N.W. - it's deer that cause accidents. Even elk can snarl up traffic.
Interesting story you've told. At least you tried, in some cases.

Yeah well my eldest brother the truck driver you have seen mentioned said we should get off the road by about 4 in the afternoon as that is when the kangaroos get on the move maybe same with deer and elks etc for you. Thanks for the lovely review.
-
Yes, that's true - the deer come out in the evening - but do you really have that many kangeroos - we have tons of deer and elk. Also early mornings are bad.
-
Yes heaps of kangaroos. They cull them sometimes depending on the area.

I've learned that when my grandpa and his wife go to hotels they ask to go to the room before they commit to staying there. They want to make sure they can get in an out of the beds and that they aren't too soft or whatever. I never knew people did that, it makes sense. The hotel people should never verbally attack or anything like that ever though. There is no reason and it's be bad for the company. These are fun and it's fun reading them. Great job.

Thanks Meaghan. So nice having you along probably no reward either. Loved your great review. Good on the Grandfolks for checking. We had to book ahead though in our situation we have only been lucky a couple of times if something was not good on sight to be able to move someplace else.

This is a very well written chapter about your trip. It sounded like there was some good time, but some not so good time too. It must be hard on you both going far distances now. It is not that easy for me either at times. Thanks for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

Thanks Sis. We don't do this anymore. We can't for so many reasons. Hope you saw the poem in the links etc. Have to get to your stuff again real soon.

Hi again, to both of you. It sure sounds that this trip was not the greatest success. I'm so sorry. I can understand you require certain facilities, but in today's world that shouldn't be a problem. Well, I can see that I'm wrong.
I really liked the poem. Very well written. I'm out of sixes. Sorry. Warm regards. Ulla:)))

Sorry this was such a disappointing trip. Your family does not seem to understand your and your wife's need for special accommodations. I can see why you stopped taking trips and decided to stay home where life is/was more comfortable.

Yeah Sasha, if we were still abler and still driving we would have kept it going as we enjoyed the ones we got things right on anyway. Thanks. I keep leaving and keep meeting new people in here Sigh!
-
It must have been hard to give it up.
-
Not wrong. We miss driving and occasionally have thaty thought of going out somewhere and then reme3mber we don't have our car or our licenses anymore.

So, Queensland is also known as the Sunshine State? How fun and just like Florida. I am awfully sorry you were treated so badly by the motel owner! I can't imagine why someone would treat such a darling couple like that. Hospitality industry indeed....
I am glad God blessed you with some good moments inside of your trip, and your time together, as well. Sending you both my best today as always,
Sally xo

Sankey,
Wow. I've had trips like that with our family. Once we went to a lovely island where we had checked the hotel out rather thoroughly online. When we GOT there we realized the entire thing had been staged. They had painted and fixed up the front of the hotel to make it look appealing -- the back of the hotel and the rooms were horrifying. When we went in, Reg and I wouldn't let the kids sit on anything or even put the luggage down! We only touched the phone -- to call the management and tell them we would be leaving AND to call around and find other lodgings. UGH.
Thanks!

Thanks for coming by you wonder why these people bother to get into hospitality. maybe they pay a lot to buy in then reckon they can make up some of the expense by cutting back! Sigh!
