Considering all the ribbons and 6 star ratings on your poetry page, I would have to disagree when you say that you don't write poetry. As someone who lived among rednecks in Florida for a good part of my life, I have had the chance to try moonshine and OMG no thank you! But I wouldn't turn down a nice Amaretto sour. Nice 5-7-5 poem.

Thanks again, Marilyn, for another kind and generous review that's very much appreciated. I took tons of flack over this one, as I did on another about the pope. But sometimes, people just aren't able to see the humor in themselves. I've learned in life that we must be able to laugh at ourselves. It keeps us humble and searching out our own flaws. "That's my story and I'm sticking to it." Much appreciated!

You write well. This was an interesting prompt. This was fun to do. It took me two tries. Karen

Thank you so much, Karen. I got cussed out about three of these last four posts that you've read. This one for categorizing people and speaking down to moonshiners. The woman said her father was a moonshiner. She got so nasty that I just called her stupid, not my usual reaction. Thanks for going back and reading these old posts. You make me enjoy them more now than I did when I wrote them. :-)

I don't think It was the poem, I think it is the picture. To true to life perhaps?:-)

Being from "the holler" know all about that moonshine and how much brighter it can make the night than moonlight does.
Just sip those cares away. White lightening in a jug.
As they say in these parts a little goes a long way.

ROFL! Yes, sir, just a snort or two will do ya. But the more ya drink, the easier it goes down. I don't indulge anymore, but way back, I sure did my share, and a few others' too. I had a couple Eastern Kentuckians really get mad at me over this playful piece. They said I was making fun . . . until someone else told them that I was an ol' Kentucky farm boy. LOL. Thank you so much for all the stars! You're a gentleman and a scholar who always brightens up my day whether it's reading your stories or your reviews. Much appreciated! Ric

Good play on the word "moonshine" and I hear it's good for what ails ya but never tried it. Lots of fun in your poem. You didn't need another review here but had to see one of your award-winning poems. Congratulations!

As you know, I don't do poetry. Never really have, and probably never will. Although, I sure do enjoy reading yours and others. I just used to goof off every now and then hoping to put a smile on someone's face. But after I received so many nasty messages about my Pope poem, I stopped posting them. I wasn't meaning to do anything disrespectful, but a few took it more serious than I had intended it to be. Imagine that. LOL. Thank you so much, Helen, for taking time to read more of my foolishness. I always appreciate your writing and reviews! :-)

Now you got me intrigued about your Pope poem. I remember listening to Donovan's "A Poke at the Pope" in high school. I wasn't offended but then, I'm not Catholic either...

I just happened to stumble on this when looking at the listing of recent contest winners! Congratulations to you on your win! I love this piece! I love when someone takes a completely different angle on a prompt and has a little fun with it. You did exactly that. This was so extremely clever! I think this is a sign you're meant to write more poetry! Congrats again! :)

Thank you so much, JennaG, for taking time to read my little, silly poem. It's hard for even me to imagine how I started off writing about the sun and the moon, and ended up on moonshine. And I don't drink anything stronger than coffee or tea, of course, I do drink too much of them. Your kind words and the extra special six-star review are greatly appreciated. It's you and the few other poets' work that regularly read that has rubbed out on me a little. I appreciate you! :-)

Thank you so much, Susanne, for taking time to read my little, silly poem. It's hard for even me to imagine how I started out writing about the sun and the moon, and ended up on moonshine. Guess it's just my one track mind? Seriously, I don't drink anything stronger than coffee or tea, but I do drink too much. LOL! Your kind words and generous review are greatly appreciated. :-)

You are so welcome...would have thought you enjoyed your libations as much as I do by your words...lol. God bless and hugs, Susanne

I must admit that I probably drank more in thirty years than most people could drink in five lifetimes. My profession required me to drink and entertain all day. Then, take everyone to dinner, cruise all the hot-spot parties and clubs, while saving just enough time to catch a quick shower and change before starting a new day. (That sentence is hectic for a reason.) So now I'm just sitting back catching my breath. :-)

At 60, I still go strong with hubby and have a few (5 or 6 black velvet) A DAY. love to relax with them every day! lol...can't imagine quitting now! Gotta say God bless and hugs, Susanne

I'm 61, and I must admit that I barely remember the first, and the last fifteen years. The others are all a blur. LOL!
-
lol...I would hate not remembering! I sometimes act the fool after a few, but I always remember, just to kick myself in the ass! hahaha
-
Now that would be a funny sight. Watching you go around trying to kick yourself in the ass! LOL!
-
lol...yes, that would be funny!

Great poem. Very humorous and absolutely spot on. I especially liked the artwork you chose to accompany your poem. It really brought the humor home. Great job and congratulations

Ha! I laugh because my grandfather was one of the best moonshiners around. I love this entry for this particular prompt and wish you the best in the voting.

That's awesome about your grandfather, the old guys are special craftsmen! I hope you followed him around and learned all you could, since people are now bottling legally with a license. I had a lady who reamed be about stereotyping, and said that I probably use the "N" words and went on and on. Like an idiot, I foolishly tried to explain that I wasn't making fun of anyone, nor was I really stereotyping or being disrespectful. She would have never understood that the people she thought I was making fun of are some of the most proud people in the world. They never would have seen themselves in my humor, and if they had, they would have laughed their butts off. And the funniest thing of all is, I'm one of the those old boys she blasted me about! Thank you so much, Steve, for taking time to read my little, silly poem. Your kind words and generous review are greatly appreciated. :-)

Ha! My pleasure Ric. Some people use their own insecurities to lash out at others. So be it! Those who cast the first stone etc. etc. I have had folks miss interpret some of my horror pieces without fully understanding the meaning behind the gestures.
God bless my friend.
