I think forgetting is a normal part of aging. I'm nearly 55 and forget a lot (but also worry about Alzheimer's because my Dad had it). It can also be stress related. You did seem to forget a lot over the weekend.
Ask your wife to keep an eye on things - things you know how to do but can't seem to remember any more. for example: my dad had been an electrician for many years before retiring but suddenly when doing simple tasks like changing an outlet, he couldn't remember how to do it or it would take many times longer than it should have. Get checked out if those kind of things are happening.

Hi, Treischel,
I empathize with you. Been there and done that but I have always had a poor memory so I apparently do not notice it as much as you do. I find concentrating on being mindful and really paying attention helps. Also making a list and trying memorize helps instead of making the list and expecting to solely rely on it helps.
If you really think you might have altzhiemers disease its probably well to have it diagnosed. I do not think there is much that can be done for it but I think it might be useful to think about it and organize you life so that you can lessen your dependence on memory. So much for helpful hints from Heloise. Feel free to ignore some or all of it.
Excellent poem though I cannot say that I enjoyed reading it. Enjoyment is not the sole reason for reading poetry.

Yup - I can relate, and you and I are pretty close in age. The mind is a marvellous thing, and I get so frustrated that mine is no longer operating in the way it did when I was younger. Alzheimer's scares the bejeezuz out of me. So, I get your feelings of concern. They come through loud and clear, even though your poem is light and airy.
I love the Rondeau, and you do a great job with this one.

LOL. Now, I think I'll go console myself with a cup of tea. I think I put the kettle on about an hour back.

Sometime we do things automatically so we just think we did when we didn't, do it automatically. LOL Sometimes we think about doing something and later think we did it. It's a hectic world anymore. Vitamins help my brain when I get writers block but I think if you can write such a poem you will not be in
trouble for years yet. Relax Tom. You're okay.xx Nancy

Probably not. I hope that is some encouragement. You are a creative person and part of your mind was probably creating something, the next photo, poem or whatever. I've been doing that sort of thing for years for the same sort of reason. It worried me once till I read an article about absent mindedness that I have tried to paraphrase here. The absent minded professor is alive and well in all us creative guys.
Shit! I forgot to buy toilet rolls when I went to the store this morning.

Thank you Pantygynt. That is most encouraging, it seems that I have tunnel focus lately. Hope you have some Kleenex around, lol.

I have spells like that, Tom, in fact I saw my doctor about it. She said it was normal, we all forget things. I think we worry more because we hear about Alzheimer's so often now. But, your brain is working fine, Tom, your poetry, your photography, it's all brain exercise. Your poem is written perfectly, no brain problems there, my friend. You are just experiencing something we all go through every now and then. Big hugs! :) Sandra xxx

Oh, this is a seriously familiar refrain...in the time it takes me to pull out a pen to add to the grocery list I write so I don't forget anything, I've forgotten what I was planning to write, or even forgotten that I was planning to write. LOL. I'm 64.
I'm trying not to make light of it, but one thing's for sure - worry will only hasten the onset. Go and get tested.
Your rondeau was a wonderful read. :)

This is eloquently written and the reader can feel the frustration presented. The verse form is perfectly chosen and the rhyme gives the ideas pace which adds to the feeling of desperation. I think that forgetting things is actually due to your brain existing on autopilot because things are a repeated action, or that your brain is preoccupied and does not realise that it hasn't completed a task. Your poem shows how hard people become on themselves as they get older: your younger self forgot things and just laughed it off as one of those things! As we get older, we have the time to forget things and to then put things right and remember them!

A nice and impressive photo of you yourself that complements your poem perfectly. I can understand your worries so well as I am forgetful at age 64, due to TIA's. Hardly anybody gets this and they tend to soothe you. But I think if you still can write this Rondeau about it it's not that bad.

Hi Triescel,
bless you. I am ten years younger than you and I am always forgetting things. Sometimes we have so much to remember that we forget half of it. These are just small things you are forgetting and quite normal at your age, your entitled too.
Don't worry, just enjoy life as you are.
Keep well.
