Some people are not satisfied unless they try to force their ways and beliefs on someone else who does things different than they do, usually to disastrous results.
Interesting read about left-handedness in a right-handed world.

Sankey,
I'm a "blast from the past" but dropped in to check messages. I appreciated your write because I have 2 sisters are and several uncles who were left handed (the uncles have passed away). I marveled at their abilities to do the fine motor coordination actions like writing with their left hand and are masterful at right handed gross motor actions like hitting a softball. I witnessed a third grade teacher of mine abuse a left handed class mate with the same ruler technique as you mention. It infuriated me! My father was tested as an ambidextrous person who could write either way. Thanks for exposing the ignorance of those who would seek to rewire someone's brain.

Thanks Gracie Ann for coming along rewardless. Just sorry you missed them. The Fan Art picture has been gifted to me by the artist so it will feature in the book one of these days. I recently renewed for 2 years after battling with some of the weird stuff that goes on in FS for ages.

An informative piece that addresses an issue that has been faced by many.
It is hard to believe that the idea that writing with one's left hand is some kind of sinister practice that must be eliminated.
Good job.

Thanks very much. Yes the Catholic system claimed it was an evil spirit made folks write left-handed. I am glad a lot of that has been discontinued. Appreciate your lovely review. Trying to get around to reading some of the new friend's stuff as I am able.

This posting has been very interesting for me because my mother was left handed and was forced to use her right hand when she started school. She was one of those who became ambidextrous. I never felt that she was bitter about it, but she could have been hiding her feelings about the mater. My daughter, born in 1971, is left handed but it has not been a problem. Thank you for sharing this writing. (I remember watching The King's Speech and thought it was an excellent movie.)

Hi new friend I think? Appreciate the comprehensive review. I hated how the prince was treated by the nanny! Colin Firth was so good in the role. Being Aussie I loved Geoffrey Rush as well. I have to try and get around to a lot of the new friends I have made due to the excellent reviews I have had. This was written ages ago just felt it need another airing...thanks again.

You're very welcome!

When I student taught in second grade, I realized that as I did the writing lesson on the board, my body covered the writing as I wrote and caused an attention problem for the kids. Since I was writing huge letters, I was able to write left handed and stay ahead of the words. Well, that's great for a second grade teacher!

Captivating--I am a leftie too, as is my sister and my daughter--and several friends--my mother was trained to be right-handed--still did some things left-handed. Fascinating piece with a powerful point. Great movie!

As a boy in high school, I played baseball, the position, catcher. I always appreciated the southpaw pitcher, as we called the lefty. It seems he had better control and speed. Thanks for sharing your post, Sankey. My blessing to you.

Thanks, Bro this came up as I was searching for stuff and I felt like it needed another airing.

This story about being left-handed reminds me of my wife. She is also left-handed and recalls having to find spiral notebooks that flip from the top. Also, scissors are definitely made for mostly right-handed people. Even the zippers on coats favor right-handed people. Who knew?

Yeah, you are right about everything being designed right-handed. I actually played sport with cricket and baseball and golf right-handed. can't remember if I was ever any good at tennis that would have been right-handed too. Thanks for coming along.

Thank goodness these practices have largely disappeared and the term cackhanded seems to have all but disappeared from the vocabulary. My brother was a left handed, and a left footer, too.

Ha I used the cacky handed expression the other week as someone famous was also left handed. Thanks for coming along. Been updating the chapter numbers in the Geoff's Musing book and decided to give this some more air.

I have never understood the obsession with the right hand for writing! We do whatever comes natural to us and I see no wrong in either hand and that stupid teacher wrapped up in his own importance got what he deserved, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Dolly I heard in some Catholic Schools they thought left-handed might have been demon-possessed or some such. So glad they don't try correcting anymore. Thanks for coming by.
