I got a kick out of this one. You're right about youngsters and oldsters, sort of reverting back to childhood when we get old. Food fights and food fun. Marilyn

I hugely enjoyed the humour in this. Your feast of food colour reminded me of the paintings of Pro Hart! His food paintings were quite the rage here in Australia a few years back.

It seems to go full circle - baby food. My Mom had to eat pureed food the last few years of her life - she hated it.
I like your last stanza:)

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read and review. Your kind comments are really appreciated; as are the stars. What makes it bad for the elderly is when their mind is still intact but for whatever reason they have to eat pureed.

From diaper to diapers, our digestive system follows. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is good imagery.

"Messy Eating", is a well-written and entertaining piece. Color makes food much more exciting. This poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. Age is only a number. All food is to be enjoyed.

What a wonderful mess you have described. It is true, we start life with food that is mushy so that our young bodies can adjust to the textures and flavors, some of which are aquired tastes, then, when we get older in years, revert back to softer foods so that our worn out teeth and palettes may enjoy that which we has spent a lifetime eating.
Thank you for posting.

You made a disgusting subject, pureed foods, fun. I like the thought of artful food. Fun twist with the finger painting . Great rhythm and flow. I really enjoyed this. Gretchen

Watching a toddler eat can be cringe-worthy yet fun! They are so messy- it is a part of growing and learning. Watching an elderly patient eat is sad. I have fed many older patients this type of food- it never is fun. I like your messy suggestion to food paint- just so I'm not the one cleaning it up! LOL

Thank you for taking the time to read and review. Your comments are well appreciated as are the stars of course. I agree that feeding the elderly is not much fun but standing back and watching someone else clean up can be entertaining lol.

I provide care for my baby grandson, and my husband's uncle is on the opposite end of the spectrum your poem speaks to...both make messes, the youngest delightful...food mess on the elderly does not have to same effect. Blat! This was an enjoyable read with that in mind!
