Wish I had a six for this one, Teresa. It is a great essay about seeking God's guidance in finding a solution for peace among each other. And a great solution of using prayer to let God know we need help. He already knows that but he doesnt force anything on us. We have to ask. I hope this speaks to those who dont know what a great and mighty God we have. :-)

So often when tragedies of any kind occur, we say to ourselves I wish I could do something but the problems seem so overwhelming we wind up doing nothing. Your essay is good because it is a reminder that praying is doing something and the power of prayer is hard to assess. If someone is praying though it's hard to be hateful and hurtful while praying, so the act of prayer itself contributes to peace and love. You have written a thought-provoking piece.

Your words are simple, yet profound. Prayer is indeed powerful. Our congregation prayed for peace today, but I think you have something bigger in mind, I would be glad to join in a group prayer vigil for peace.

It is a beautiful essay and written with such great passion. You are absolutely right, too many people rather reach for a gun rather than a prayer book. Your last sentence of your first paragraph grabbed my attention that led me further into very strong and true words that if many realize as you wrote the power of healing this country and world is prayer. Wonderful work.

Oh my, Teresa, this essay brings tears to my eyes - of joy, of sorrow, and appreciation of the pure beauty of the message. (In fact, I involuntarily gasped and sobbed by the end, but we're not there yet...LOL)

Some edits (minor) - paragraph two, first sentence - add "s" to "need". The subject of the sentence is the first one - "this country" (and every other...)
Next - comma needed after "did" here - "but eventually did, even though he was met..."

Count me in. I'm joining you in prayer, and all the others who will too. Where two or more are gathered in His name...and we know He can move those mountains!

This was a profound writing, the verbiage was clear and concise and genuine. Being a spiritual person this resonated well with me, however the use of "christian terms" may be off putting to some. I hope not, this is a clear message of peace and love.

Hi there, Why would I down grade you because of your beliefs? If I didn't like what I read I would skip. Now, I'm not religious, so we certainly differ there. The thing is that all the troubles we have are all steeped in religion. Sad, but true. You've written a very good piece expressing your opinions. All the best. Ulla:)))

Religion (of any kind) or not religious - it doesn't matter as long as we unite for peace:) Thanks so much Ulla.

And that we do you and I. Unite for peace.:)))

Your story is very well-written. You do a great job of setting up the goal that you would like for everyone to achieve and inform them how to achieve it - while setting their expectations that they may not actually see the physical result.

Thanks for sharing this. JW

Neither I nor anyone else is forced to read anything posted here on FanStory, Teresa. You are not forced to read my horror drivel, and I, in turn, am not made to read your religious ramblings.
Having said that, it's a shame you felt you had to place such an admonition in your author's notes.
We should ALL have the right to express ourselves as we see fit, without fear of ridicule or persecution.

Now that that is out of the way:

We can unite in prayer for this country. For this world. Through Jesus Christ and prayer, we can move mountains. We'll never end the war, but like a gentle breeze or babbling brook can bring individual peace, we can restore our souls by praying peace throughout the land. ... Matthew 17:20 says: "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." ALL things are possible with God on our side.

I'm not a preacher, not a teacher. I'm not a speaker, but I have a voice. I trust God to give me direction and bring forth the tasks He has in mind.
Some of you may wonder how praying can possibly help bring peace to our country. We may never see it with our eyes. We may never know the good it does, but if our prayers, whether in silence, in small groups or large crowds, can reach one person, then we have done our job.
... Not many of us are most of the things you've mentioned here, Teresa. But most people DO possess at least some modicum of common decency and compassion. At least, I like to think so.
The power of prayer is a wonderful thing and should never be underestimated. It can literally change lives.

Let's hope that people everywhere hear and listen to what you've stated here.
A little prayer goes a long way.
It certainly couldn't hurt.
You can count me in...
