This sonnet, As Petals Fall, has the proper formatting and tracks the signs of a failed love which begins as a living thing, but falls to the ground as a dying plant.

I thought this was pretty strong; a real classically composed sonnet in form and rhythm and in a classic, Shakespearean style. You had tightly composed quatrains, in classic iambic pentameter, in a tight classic rhyme scheme, and the form really performed for you in this poem. Bright images of the spring buds contrasted with the dusty, limp fallen petals to frame this theme of a love fading from early splendor. I thought it was really musical, had great flow, it wasn't stiff at all. The closing couplet really tied together the quatrains above it. nice and neat. This really reminded me of Shakespear. estory

I really thought this was well written. So emotional. I can feel the heartache in each line. Especially in the powerful closing stanza. It's a beautifully written. Shows the feelings of love and loss. Keep sharing your wonderful work!

It has the ring of an Olde English sonneteer. Did women write sonnets, too, back then? i. d. k.
Before I read, I thought, dang, I wish she had used a bigger font, and then decided with the delicate colored background and the laciness of the print, the delicateness went hand-in-hand perfectly.

No sixes left. Sorry. This is a very fine example of a sonnet. the flow is very nice. The picture calls up romance.
The matting color is divine, and the choice of white for the font was a great pick. You forgot to note in the author's notes where the picture came from. lovely work. Karen

This is a beautiful sonnet, Nancy with the blossoing of love that doesn't make for long-term blooms. Loved the way you've used the flower of love, the rose. Beautifully written and good luck in the contest

Nancy,
This is the first I've read of your poetry. Extremely well done. I love the following two lines:
"You promised me forever. I was fooled.
Robust the heart that falls in love in spring,"
I look forward to enjoying more of your work. Neil

Dear Nancy,
This is one of the most beautiful Sonnets I have ever read. I see this is an older post, but still refects your gifted style. I can't believe this didn't snag the contest at the time. It should have. Forgive my lack of a six. A high-five star rating with my best compliments and praise.
All my best.
