I was a newbie once. I would strongly recommend reading the contest rules before you have to eat crow. It's yucky. It's embarrassing. Of course, some are just plain mean and need to be muted. I once had someone tell me 'it just isn't my cup of tea.' Needless to say, I muted him.

He deserved to be muted. Yes - we were all newbies once. It's a learning curve for new reviewers and they deserve some latitude except when they're irrational or mean. They need to be taught a lesson, and not given the opportunity to give anything else you write a one-star review. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers ... ;o)

This is a fine entry for the muted contest
Excellent imagery and commentary
on the Newbie feathers
nice little internal rhyme in line two
Excellent third line with "yet" the operable word
Very good art work to match
This should appeal to fanstorians
Good luck in the contest

This 5-7-5 about muting a reviewer, Newbie Feathers Fly, hits the nail on the head with neophyte reviewers who hit hard with limited knowledge of practically anything.

This is humorous to read.
You have the right amount of syllables and your punctuation marks
give emphasis in the right places for instance the dash in the last line.

Personally, I don't think there should be any lower stars offered by FanStory than 4. Why even put 1-2-and 3 out there as a choice? The best way for newbies to learn the pain of a poor rating is when someone rates their own work poorly. That seems to be an Aha! moment for them.

Appreciate your thoughts on the FS rating system. There is a learning curve when it comes to rating our own and other's work. There can be many ah-ha moments along the way. I would be surprised if Tom changed his rating system.

Yes, definitely a learning curve. And for those hard liners with one-upmanship should ask themselves--how important is it?

Poet,
Nice entry for the contest NEWBIE.
I guess you killed two birds with
one 5-7-5 entry.
I see you are winning in the
booth too...so congrats.

Well done! This follows the format and also makes an accurate statement! I'm a 'newbie' to FanStory. That being said, if I don't understand the format or requirements, I do not review the post. If I do, I do some research. In my opinion, poetry speaks to everyone differently. I prefer rhyming poetry, even so, it does not mean I dismiss poetry that does not rhyme! Well done and good luck in the contest!

Thanks! I'm sure you're a good 'newbie'. But there are a rare few - it happened to me twice this year - that are oblivious to contests and contest requirements. Yes, poetry does speak to everyone differently, and sometimes writers use formats to hang their ideas and words. There is also a bevy of poetic devices at the author's disposal. Writers try to craft words that will resonate with their audience. I think they'll always be a small percentage that won't like, appreciate or understand any given piece of writing. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers ... ;-)

Very true, I agree with your desire to mute a "nube", I hope you check in with them in the future to see if they've "gotten the hang of it", learned something, and therefore, is so - give them a chance by un-muting. :)
Nube is the way we always spelled "Newbie". I'm not correcting or anything like, just making an observation, ha-ha-ha-ha. It's totally amazing to me how many different ways a person can spell a particular word depending upon the part of the Country in which they live, the culture specifics, etc. :o)

Yes, I agree with you, they don't read the rules of contests, or of the rating rules.
This is a great entry. Good luck in the contest! :) Sandra xxx
