Very moving journey you have here from the search for inspiration to pack this poem with metaphor to reach into the heavens and memories - traveling to the sands of North Africa in a search for truth - a true adventure of the mind.

Delighted that you should have enjoyed these ramblings, Alan. The names that people give to different winds around the world are quite fascinating.

Congratulations on All Time Best status. A very different poem from you quill. I liked the message it bore. There is a famous saying "The moving hand writes, and having writ, moves on." I think it was a message from God to Nicodemus. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Oh, like how your first stanza that prepares us for quite a free verse.
I like the analyzation of the moments in this poem and how it plays on the persona's mind, and thoughts and memories are somehow interchanged with wondering when they, that have passed are no longer with us in person.and we can strangely, or not so... at times still feel their presence in so many ways, we can travel, Beyond the Oasis..

Thanks for sharing...Caressa_08

-Very well written poem.
-Imagery is excellent.
-Poem presents many thought provoking questions.
-I like the beginning with
"Let me pack this poem
with things that cannot be spoken"
-There are so many things unknown or not understood by us, including poetry:
"What is poetry,
but the filling of one space with another?"
-Thanks for sharing.

For one who has only recently stepped upon the sands of free verse, you stride between the grains very well. This would have made a strong entry in the free verse contest.
It's all about the imagery and insight, folded spaces of time.
I think the fragrance is a part of the vase, inseparable.
Space is neither created nor destroyed, simply moved from one place to another.
You arrange the flowers beautifully, my friend,
and I call it poetry.

At first, I wasn't sure how a poem could be packed with "feeling too deep to feel" as many poems are intended to evoke emotions. As I read, I was drawn in to the ethereal world of memories and this claim made sense. This poem has many lovely phrases that lift the reader to a higher awareness of consciousness and I enjoyed reading it.

This is a really lovely free verse Tony.
I think the 'breath of inspiration' really blew on you with this one. Like the iceblue twisted tree your thoughts branch from the 'fragrance of roses' to 'bloodstains of cold grey stone' with beauty and free flowing thoughts. Love it.
cheers,
valda.

Thanks, Valda, for a lovely review and stars. You are right - this was one that just flowed - notes on a page that just fell into shape with a little judicious editing and re-arrangement.

This lovely free verse offering comes at the reader like a gentle dust-bearing wind out of the North African desert. Heated, resolute...determined in it's resolve to make a lasting impression.
The metaphorical phraseology is stunning, as is the overall message your eloquent words convey here.
We have a natural tendency to compare things by contrast and conflicting iconography. Sun to moon, day to night, light to darkness...good verses evil...
It's simply human nature.
Nice work here, Tony...

This was a beautiful and wonderful write that pulled the reader in from the 1st stanza and held me there transfixed. The vivid and captivating description was excellent.

Such a well written free verse, Very dramatic, but it conjured up such images for me.

I could imaging that hot wind, whipping the sand obscuring all in it's path.

But my favorite lines are:

What is poetry,
but the filling of one space with another?

for me they are the most telling.

Thanks for sharing.
