Very heartfelt. The second line was a little too long compared to the shorter length of the lines around it. This isolates the longer line, causing the reader to interrupt the reading. Happy Anzac Day.

Thank you for reminding us about the sacrifice of many Australians and New Zealanders. I admired your rhymed couplets and quatrains plus your presentation. Cheers- Joan

Thank you Joan. Yes, for the size of our population at that time (and that of New Zealand) this was a terrible tragedy. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

"on a memorial plaque." Would rhyme. Yes, it is a commemoration; not long ago they tried to stop the march. Australians will never stand for that. It is a sacred day and needed to educate our young people. Well done mate.

HI Kaye... thank you for that hint... don't know why I didn't think of it. Yes, it is a day we must keep for commemoration. Thank Kaye, and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

A very well-written poem telling the story of young men forced into combat, many never return still in the prime of their lives. A great reason to commemorate them all.

indeed lots of us got to serve. To this day aw cannot say we were there. Rows upon rows of white crosses mark their sacrifice. This day no one can say --with any degree of certainty--just why we were there.
Indeed a sad time-- with any luck at all--we've seen the last of these senseless blood -lettings.--
well written!

Comment from Janet Foor
I enjoyed this very well written and informative poem. I wasn't aware of the Anzacs or the celebration. I will share with my grandson, Nate because he is going to Austrailia in January to play soccer. He will be 22 before the trip and this will be a great adventure for him.
So happy to read your work.
Blessings

Thank you for writing this tribute to those brave soldiers who died and/or fought for the freedom so many have.
You did a great job expressing your feelings.
It breaks my heart that the US turned their back on the Viet Nam vets when they returned home [and also for all those that were lost].
Good job and thanks for sharing. Jan
