This is a beautifully crafted villanelle ~ I was particularly taken by
Lion's roar, bravely will she energize,
To earn the prize set just beyond your sight...
Soft as a feathered dove to soothe your cries,
And bearer of most decadent delight.
What a wonderful treatment of hope's intangible
character - strength of a lion - feathery touch of
a dove's promise.
I hope you do well in the voting booth!

Very nice entry. I am partial to the villanelle and Dylan Thomas. One of my favorites of all time is Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night. Your choice of this form really brought it home for me. It rings with the similar favorite lines of the Frank Sinatra song, 'Luck is a Lady Tonight.'
Impressive lines are throughout but my favorite are
"soft as a feathered dove to soothe your cries
and bearer of most decadent delight
Fickle muse, Hope's a lady in disguise."
really nice :)
Best to you in the contest with this strong entry,
Senyai

Hi Senyai,
I am not familiar with the Sinatra song at all, but am very appreciative of the time you took to read and review my poem. Thank you for all of the kind comments. I was excited to try a villanelle and then this topic came up, a perfect match. :)

Wow. That's a snootful of notes. Nice to see Ol' Dylan quoted. Am I going to read the notes and count the lines and all that? Why, no. Does the piece seem poetic, rational and readable? Yes. Excellent.

Thanks, LIJ:
I haven't seen many Villanelles floating around here, so I thought I'd lend some notes on the form :) I'm happy that you enjoyed the poem. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment! :)

This is an finely composed Villanelle. Hope to me symbolizes inertia. Without action to bring goals to fruition, hope does nothing but frustrate, "she will tease and tantalize" that something will change--but it will not change--unless we do something about it. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
I like the thought you expressed here. Hope is enough to perk you up and keep you looking at that prize just out of your reach, but you have to have that goal to work toward. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

I love the way hope is portrayed as a fickle muse. This is an outstanding work, laced with elegant wording which beguiles the reader, and takes him on a scribal journey into its sonorous depths, well done, beautifully composed, blessings, Roy

This is so beautiful and another novelty for me. It is written exactly based on the definition of a villanelle poetry. The illustration is appropriate for the poem and meet the requirements for the contest. Thanks for making me learn something new today. Best of luck!
