Great opening. The reader will be drawn in. You actually got to attend the Marti Gras?? That was one of the places left I've wanted to attend: "We were thrilled that we would actually get to go to Mardi Gras; at least the last weekend." I think you must have had a shield of protection around you. I've had one around my houses over the years. Most recently, we had heavy snow and the pine trees couldn't hold it. I had either a tree or large branch fall on all 4 sides of my house, missing my house between 3, 5, 15 & 25 feet from my house.

I know this is an older story, but I'm glad to have read it. Your writing is clearly described and interesting. Having lived in Tennessee for nearly 10 years, I'm familiar with the torrential rains in the south. "Coming down in sheets" is not an idle saying. Nicely done and congratulations for winning the contest with this one. Marilyn

Awww thank you for reviewing, for your kind comments and of course the stars. At least half of my writings are based on personal experience and this was one of them. Writing about it was also a way to ventilate a lot of feelings so I am glad to share and provide enjoyment for someone else.

I like writing about everyday happenings in my life and current events, too. It keeps poetry real for me.

Oh, how true. Some would call it intuition, some fate and the fools would just shrug their shoulders and say 'So what.' I, like you, call it a gift. A gift usually comes with not much warning sometimes gift-wrapped and a ribbon on top. Those are the nice gifts. Some come with hate and destruction as their wrapping. But you knew. That is the message you learnt that day. Sincerely Anne.

Wow! I am so glad you were having a bad hair day -- I thought those things were supposed to be yucky, but I'll never complain about another one! *smile*

A great piece. Good luck in the contest!

I have been through a tornado that took our home so I can very much relate to the piece you have written here. Very good entry and story.

Wow Thank you so much. Oh I am so sorry about the tornado. I guess I have what some call a weird attitude about loss of material things while others think it is realistic. I was told at a young age that loosing material things can be replaced whereas loss of life cant so when its material I just smile and carry on. Anyways thank you once again.

Thank you so much. Actually it was true. I have had incidents all my life but this was the first that would have affected myself, my husband, my dog and two cats. That is what made it different for me. Again thanks.

That a good story and well written. I did have a twinge of jealousy, however that you had such an interesting job. What do you do, if I may ask, to keep you moving from place to place like that? I think God is in control of when our final day will be.

Oh my, thank you so very much. It is actually my husband who still works, me, I am retired from nursing. He works for a Georgia based company that hires surveyors to walk the natural gas lines and check both residential and commercial gas meters for leaks. If any are found they are called into the local gas company for repair. The company tries to send workers north in the summer and south in the winter. We are still in New Orleans area for what I am guessing to be another month, then who knows where. Hey no jealousy twinges. It does have downfalls- constant moving, and although one establishes new friends they are temporary. And if I did want to work part time there are minimal opportunities. You are correct that our Creator is in control. I just never had an premonition that involved another family member and my pets so it was a little mind boggling. Again thanks for the review and for you great writing. I will add you to follow if you dont mind.

Thank you,...well, thanks for everything. Maybe I'll just stick where I am and dream of the day we can have the means to stay with our married children for a week or two at a time.

Excellent. A very interesting story. You held my attention to the end.

At the beginning, I suggest you put, "looking for job assignments" or "seeking job assignments".

Well done and good luck in the contest.
