Hi Chrissy. Yes, a bad decision, alcohol, or just an accident can make such a difference in the life of the victim and the extended family. Thank you for grasping the message behind this poem and your generous rating. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Great imagery for your poem. It's unfortunate when a spouse has to assume the responsibility of caregiver for their partners. I know a lady who works full-time then has to come home and take over as caregiver of her husband. A very sad situation. I think you poem expresses this very well. I think the line "she knows there is no hope" expresses the feeling excellently.

How true it is that one split second can so utterly change your life and that of those around you. The second of my accident, my life forever changed, but once the grief passed, it has lead to to a richer life than I had known before. The first 3 years were incredibly difficult though. Today, I am happy and so very grateful for what I have. Taking care of a family member is incredibly hard. I worked with Alzheimer's patients for 10 years, they generally were much better off than their famiy members who suffered incredibly. A very good topic, my friend~Debbie

Hi Debbie, you are so right in your observations. I am pleased you are in a place where you are happy and grateful, and you are not living as a victim. Thanks for your review and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Thank you for being inspired by a compelling story and sharing the result with us. I admired your recounting the tale in rhymed quatrains. The circularity and repeats for emphasis are quite effective. Sighs- Joan

Hi Marijke!
This poem is poignant and important. It is so sad when a person's life changes in just that split second, with no recourse. Heart wrenching for both them and their loved ones. You have portrayed this feeling well in your poem. Excellent work!
We have made the halfway point today! Give yourself a round of applause! Yay!

Hi Fiona. This is a wonderfully touching poem, well composed with an important theme. I enjoyed reading it. Also reminds me in some respects of Alzheimer's. It's a tough job for caregivers. They must hold something back for themselves or they burn out. Marilyn

Your choice of subject is close to home. Having nursed many folk staring at the wall. Young folk dive into unknown waters and even middle-aged take their life in their hands. Still, we have free will and choose which way to go. Your poem had a wonderful rhythm and rhyme to it. Thanks so much for sharing (I have a carer too.) Blessings XX

Hi Kay, thank you so much for that review and your observations. One moment of madness, or a poor decision, and lives are ruined. I did dedicate the poem to all carers. Thanks for your generous rating. Warmest regards , Marijke :o)

Hello Marijke Well your poem certainly pulls one's heart strings reading your excellent pathos poem.
this part really got to me-
He watches her blankly
But he doesn't recall
That she is his sweetheart
Doesn't know her at all

I wish I had a 6 to give you for the awesome and deeply moving poem but I am out so a virtual one is all I can offer. I have known several people with dementia and one with a severe brain injury and I could relate to your heartfelt words. Marvelous work with this. I saw nothing to change or correct. It is perfect just as it is.

Thank you so much, Smurphgirlasha, for your virtual six. I have seen the results of a moment of madness, a bad choice gone horribly wrong. Thank you again and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

One moment and one wrong choice can change your and your family's life forever. Be careful what you do when you with your friends it is not always fun for everyone.
