I absolutely love that you are willing to speak the unspeakable!
LOL - I too have found Tennyson prone to snore inducing tedium.
But Parker. . .ah, there's a woman after my own heart. Speaks her mind -
without censor!
What an education I am getting in the lives/works of our revered poets :-)

Hi Leineco,
I am having so much fun researching and writing my poems this month. I'm learning so much about these poets, too. Dorothy Parker was a gem! She was feisty and didn't care who knew it... love it! Thanks for a grand review!

Comment from Gloria ....
Ha, what a great thing to find Dorothy Parker. I became familiar with some of her work through her and Lillian Hellman's antics. I mean what friends they were.
Terrific quote about boredom and curiousity.
HAHA, she really was a hoot. I agree, poetry has to be authentically coming from the author, otherwise what's the point?
Excellent addition to your NaPo book. :))

Hi Gloria,
I was so thrilled to discover Dorothy Parker. I think I recognized some of the quotes from her, but didn't realize who she was, but to actually sit and read her for awhile, what an amazing, feisty woman who speaks her own mind! Loved it!
Thanks for a great review.

I enjoyed reading your entire post, Kim. There is a lot of truth to it. I think you are right on target with comments about boredom. In my opinion that's what keeps people from discovering poetry--too flowery, too cryptic, too boring, too, too, too. Contemporary poetry that people can identify with is more reader friendly as expressed in your well written and rhymed words:
"I find my mind is now awake,
This celebration's on the rise,
Of course, he'll stay, for Classic's sake --
But, Parker's poems are my new prize!"

I enjoyed your poem. This one seems to be the hardest one to write up to now. There seems to be so much going on like a kind of chaos [not at all with your or your great words, though. It is hard to explain].
The author notes were a great addition. You know just what to give the reader to peak their interest.
I love what DParker said that you highlighted in blue. I found it funny, but a perfect addition to your poem.
Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Good fun this but you are not emulating an ancient style so that "did" in the first line iout of place. I regard the use of the verb to do as an auxilliart verb as an anachronism place usually just to force the scansion, "was my" in this case would keep the scansion and remain in the style of this modern poem, which I otherwise enjoyed.
Go on, change it, please.

Hi Pantygynt,
Since you said please so nicely, how could I resist? ;) The change is complete. Thanks for the tip! I will laud you in poetry (or already have) lol Now you have to find where...

Hahaha. I love Dorothy Parker. What a find. Loved your poem too. I suspect Dorothy may have found a new fan. I shall go from here and look her up. She is genius and so refreshing a lot like yourself. Xxx

I must say, I rather agree with Dorothy Parker! Tennyson is a fine example of Victorian high hat, rather too pompous for my taste, though I do like his poem The Eagle. Your background notes and excerpts were most interesting. Your own poem is kept afloat by its humour - not one of Alfred's fortes! I've never tried writing an idyll, though I've thought about it once or twice - but always come down in favour of party drinks instead.

Hi Tony! Cheers to toasting the party drinks (in lieu of writing blank verse) lol I'm afraid that wouldn't be my forte'. I appreciate your fun comment. Thanks for taking the time to read and review.

So instead of an idyll, you found an idol ;-)
I have to say this is both well-written and funny. I imagine she certainly would be the ultimate party guest.
Very nicely done, Kim :)

She was a hoot! She died a month before I was born. I had a lot of fun with that one. :) Had to write it twice lol
Thanks for a great review.

Haha! You keep going for the juicy things, which makes your collection very entertaining. Also, educative! I grew to look forward to them! You already accomplished so much with this series! This time, you introduced a brutally honest lady who had her talent to back her up!
Perfect choice!
