The ever competing world outs unnecessary pressure on children to compete and achieve the best they can be. Not everyone can be the champion so some do loose from time to time.

It is sad that our society puts so much pressure on the young to compete in sports. They get so consumed and try so hard for most of them only to find their dreams shattered. I think if they cut the pressure and let the kids enjoy the sport for fun there would be a lot more make it.

Great entry in the contest -
As fulfilling as the life of a competitive athlete is -
it is also on some levels grueling!
The important thing, I think, is that we applaud
their dedication to their calling and the discipline
it took to reach whatever rank that are at :-)
Good luck in the voting booth!

Yay! for the Australian Swimming Team! This poem is well done and a great tribute to all the ones who compete in any kind of Olympic event. The rhythm of the quatrains is done well. Good job!

I can't imagine how hard it is for teenagers to compete. My daughter is an athletic trainer. She was invited to run in the Boston Marathon this spring but wasn't able to do it because of an injury.

Wow! What a great subject for the 'day in the life' poem! I imagine that none of use can't truly grasp the determination it takes to strive for these things! Thanks and good luck!

Young people who have the kind of dedication and discipline to even try for the Olympics deserve so much respect, but get little notice unless they win. However, the real advantage is what they learn from the experience and carry over into the rest of their lives. You have a right to be proud of your granddaughter, and you can be proud of your tribute in poetry. You did well.
