Excellent

A big theme for a short poem.
I liked it, clear... to the point, with profound flavor.

(Okay, here's a bunch of things that ran through my mind after I read this 5-7-5: Reason is in short supply-- where did all the reason go? Use your reason and do some reasoning. I wonder what reason is explicitly defined as... So, in my curiosity I looked it up.

: -- the power of the mind to think, understand, and form judgments by a process of logic.

Lines up with what I thought it was defined as. Then I read this in the definition example sentence after that and I giggled:

"there is a close connection between reason and emotion"
--ah! so maybe that's why reason gets misplaced so often.

There's the outer world, and the inner world, the world inside ones' head... all cluttered with sensations, information. One streaming flow of data. What is real, what is perception? What do we make of it all? I wonder if reason produces amusement. The ability to recognize absurdity and ... the reaction to it. Only by the amazing power of reason can one attempt to process the expanse of reality.

Anyway, I started babbling ... in the end, I liked this thinking 5-7-5.

Hmmm, I wonder what the basis of that claim is? Reason and emotion are closely connected? I would have thought they are almost antonyms. One only has to think of Spock to recognise that! (Basing my case here on solid, believable information hehe).

Does reason produce amusement? Well, there is Monty Python...

I thought the same thing... I thought at first, when my eye glimpsed 'emotion' that I had strayed into the antonyms of the word reason... then I read the full sentence and wondered if my google dictionary was pulling my leg, mocking me for not owning a paper dictionary.

I put it on a mental list for further looking into; I became skeptical that the example use-this-word-in-a-sentence doesn't have to be true...

Reason. The voice of reason. A reason for existing.
There are a lot of things associated with that simple word, Craig. The complexity attached to it depends upon the questions being asked. Like what's the reason writers feel the need to tell stories, or poets to write poetry?
Those reasons are as varied and diverse as we are.
There are also a lot of various ways to liberate your mind, but not all of them are what one might consider reasonable, LOL.

My actual intention was to speak of "reason" in the first sense - logic, or the process of drawing conclusions based on fact - as opposed to "hocus-pocus" I guess.

It's odd to me how you can't turn on the TV these days without seeing adds or infomercials for all sorts of "new-age" stuff that is meant to give our lives meaning, and yet the application of logic and reason is just so 1950's, and stifling! Well, you only have to read anything by Carl Sagan, for example, to know that the opposite is actually the case.

And no, I don't consider hallucinogens "reasonable" lol

Reason...I wish people in this country would use that more. Unlock reality...liberate your mind. These are all big concepts, but important ones. Reason spawns a logical thought process which allows us to understand our surroundings - and some version of reality, which I believe we each must figure out for ourselves.

My reality for the moment is that I have to wake up enough to write an entry for a challenge in an hour or so - in a format I've never tried - that should clear the fog haha

I happen to agree with your assessment that reason is the key - that makes me a first-class sceptic of 99% of the stuff that other people seem to think is important. My 'reality' is very down to earth and limited to those things I can verify myself or which have been scientifically proven.

It certainly does liberate the mind, not having to carry all that baggage around with you.
