My top New Year's resolution is to spend more time watching the lake. Your poem says it all. Simple, profound. The best time is early. Most folks don't even look, or they look too late.
Thanks for confirmation.
God bless and all my best,
Relda

This is a great haiku. I really like the last line 'early bird special.' Good job with the color choices, too. Thanks for sharing.

Okay let me add, now that I am older I often find myself awake at sun rise. I really love to watch the night turn into day before my eyes. I used to set on my back porch and sip my coffee watching the sun rise, now my stinky dog has taken the porch over and well no matter how often I give him a bath he still stinks to high heaven. So, sitting out on the porch is no longer enjoyable.

I guess the birds are up for breakfast as well as any early fishermen.
Love the 'a' assonance and rhyme of 'hazy rays'.
Nice 'l' consonance through out.

Happy New year, Gypsy!

Very nice, Gypsy. You should have entered this in one of the Haiku contests. I think it is brilliant...especially the last line or satori as they call it. Good Luck with this and Happy New Year, my friend. Bob

ps. I am paying 1.20 for a new post of mine right now if you have time) Bob

Lovely Haiku that presents a beautiful
scene to the reader.
I like the clever third line.
I can just picture the little birds scavenging
for food.

Hi Gypsy another good visual haiku.
To me it looks like some is going to catch a very good view of the sun raising over the lake.

Gypsy,

Hi! I loved this haiku! You entered it in a contest and had lots of
reviews, right? What happened to it? I remember you had a
gorgeous sunrise to go with it.

This haiku is creative and sends wonderful imagery where no
photo is needed. Love the satori as well.

Hi Linds, I had a lot of poems in books and I wanted to get rid of some and keep some. I also deleted a bunch of my old poems and stories that were terrible- Just letting go of the old ready for the new year. Well, in the process of my cleaning, I deleted a bunch of poems that I really like. I had a back up copy for the words but not the pictures. Oh well, it happens. (((sadness)))
Thank you very much for taking the time to review and for your kind words. :)
    Happy New Year!

Gypsy...Good for you in clearing out the past...I had to add that line to my last poem as the form was incorrect...would help to read the directions...lol...Are you sure they are not sitting in disabled or something?
What a pity, don't forget after the first of the year is a better time to do that as those poems may have counted toward your ranking this year.

I contacted Tom and he is going to undo my deletes but I have to start all over. I will wait for next month, you and my friend Cat suggested the same. :)

I don't understand-when all the ranking are reset- do you mean you loose the old year's poems and stories?
Thank you very much for taking the time to review Sister Cat :) ((((gypsy love))))))
reply by I am Cat on 29-Dec-2015
no, you don't lose them... but you start over... what you've posting now doesn't count toward the rankings anymore... they are set. you'll have to post six come the first of January (just like when you joined) to come in at a rank again. ;) We all start from the bottom again. lol every year it does that.

oh! Okay, that is a bummer, but I guess it prevents writers from becoming semigods LOL

It's also a very lovely and well composed haiku, Gypsy.

It has all of the necessary elements which makes haiku successful. A 4-8-5 syllabic count, well within the 17 syllables required for haiku, stark imagery, two grammatically interconnected lines, a kigo, or seasonal reference, which, while not stated specifically, alludes to early autumn, given the mists rising off of the lake, and a clever satori which sums it all up quite nicely.

Well done.
