Very nice tribute you have written. Thank God no human lives were lost. Fire is a terrible, ravaging disaster that cares not who it attacks. Great job on the presentation. God bless.

Hi Lance Thanks for reading my poem and I did write it as a tribute for all the loss and devistastion to this community , but Thankfully we got through our New Year Ever without any more fires despite the temp getting up to 41 degree bit we had a bit of a cool change so that helped. Many Chhers for your great review and I hope you have a very Happy New Year. Cheers Christine😀

Nicely done. I like the meter that you used. I did read it fast and it made me feel like the poem built as I read, just like the fire was building.
What a very sad story. You told it very well though, I could see the destruction.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Katie, Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my bushfire poem and the meter does run quickly ( thats why I love Banjo Paterson's style and onecan create a flow so I am pleased you thought I told a good story ( although it sad but true) We all escaped this New Years Eve without a big fire although we did have a small fire on the outskirts of my home town but only grass burnt . So I am also wishing You and yours a Very Happy New Year stay safe Cheers Christine😃

It was an awful year for many countries. I don't think many will be sad to see the end of 2015. Your poem is masterfully written, the lines streak about like flames licking the pages. I do feel so sorry for the people who have lost everything, and I hope it was only property that was lost, and not lives. I hope 2016 will be better for everyone. xsx Sandra

Hi Sandra Fore your great feedback for my fires about this awful bushfire and I enjoyed your comments re the 'lines streak like flames licking the pages' Banjo Paterson's style lends itself for this rhythm . Yes many people lost everything but they will rebuild and I am just thankful that last night our New Years Eve was uneventful as the temperature got to 41 so another hot night and I do also hope for a better 2016 for everyone around the world as it hasn't been a very good 2015 . So wishing you a Very Happy New Year with many Cheers Christine 😃

As an Australian, I remember these bushfires. The whole nation was praying for the victims. There were stories of heroism and sacrifice all over the place.
It made me proud to be an Australian when I heard these stories

Hi Trumby , Yes I think all Aussies are aware of just what a fire can do and this was terrible on Christmas Eve/ Day with 116 houses lost and the pictures were heartbreaking so I thought I would write this as a tribute to all the fabulouse Emergency worker and Community spirit we have in Aust. I too am a proud Australian and we have much to be thankful for to live in this wonderful country. I thank you for your review and great rating and sincerely wish you a Very Happy New Year. ( and keep writing great stuff) Cheers Christine😀

This sweeping poem, with its giant meter and blazing (forgive the term) presentation, really captures what we've read and seen on television of this tremendous fire.

Loved the title of the poem. Really sets up the poem for reading it.
The fire licked and danced about, hot breath [loved this line for the metaphor image.]
I love Australia and have fallen in love with your actors that are practically dominating Hollywood Cinema.

Lightning is a naturally occurring destructive force. Its ability to destroy is unmeasured. I t has a long history of destruction, even causing death. Mankind as a species is hardy, we have conquered the power of the elements, we have learned how to harness its raw power and put it to work for our good use. Sometimes it acts apart from our control and destroys parts of the environment we created. No matter how destructive this power proves to be, we always come back and rebuild as if in defiance as it was.

Yes nomi338 You are quite right lightning is very destructive and combined with tinder dry grass and bush it is often a recipie for disaster and many fires have started this way. but re build we will and help the communities affected. We are having a very hot day again for this our NYE so all on high alert Temp expected to get to 39 or 40 C so We arecall praying that no fires break out again. Thanks for your comments and time to read and review my poem and do have a Very Happy New Year Cheers Christine😃

I blinked at your notes...35 degrees...Celsius? Yanks and their Fahrenheit.
Your poem recalls the prose of The Thorn Birds. Excellent account.
