poor Muffin, I am glad she had a full recovery. Our weather here did just the reverse of yours, we went from the 80's to the lower 40's Fahrenheit in less than 24 hours. It was a much needed relief from the heat.

Thank you for your kind review.
I'm glad Muffin made it too!

What an enjoyable read! Well written - very natural - as if you were sitting in front of me telling me this story. I also love that pic! Hilarious.
I love dogs - have a little Bichon myself - and I grew up in the north of England in sheep country!
Glad Muffin recovered!

Lovely wee write about your two pets, Nicole. Yes, dogs and cats can certainly suffer heatstroke. Had that experience ourselves and not very nice. Wish you all the best in the new year and looking forward to your writing. Ulla:)

I just love this homely post, your close affinity with your dogs and the dogs loyalty is truly amazing. i don't have pet dogs or any pet animals for that matter. I am working full time and being alone in my flat makes me a poor candidate for pet care. When I am out working, no one will take care of my supposed pets if I intend to get one. Thanks for sharing your wonderful relationship with your dogs.

That's a pity. You are right. Pets need care and attention.

Sorry to hear about your car, but soooo glad Muffin is okay. Pugs don't do well in hot weather due to short noses. I used to raise and ship puppies, and I recall that the airlines won't let pugs fly in baggage during summer months. My Tibetan spaniel pups have semi-short noses, so I used caution and chose the one airline here (forget which) that has a temperature-controlled baggage area just for pets. So keep an eye on her on hot days. Maybe you could keep an extra water bottle with you, and don't let her walk too far in the hot sun.

I managed to get the Honda dealer out yesterday and he 'broke' into the car. So I got a lesson in car-breaking! His price was a free trip to our farm and back in my old 'dog car' followed with tea and Christmas cake. Nice Kiwi man!
The walk to the top of our farm is not excessively long, but on a hot day clearly it was too much. Hot days are so rare here, I think her heart took strain.
All good now and I'll be more aware in the future.

Thank you for sharing your Christmas adventures with us, Nicole. I do love New Zealand, and the South Island is so beautiful. Lucky you, to live on a sheep property, it must be so peaceful. Poor Muffin. So glad you had the presence of mind to know what to do. We've had strange weather here on the Gold Coast, for this time of year. The last few days the wind has been blowing a gale, and its COLD!! Well, at least chilly, lol. Out in western Queensland they've had a bit of much welcome rain, and horrible bushfires in SA and Victoria. Some of everything all over the country.
Have a happy new year,
Annette

Thanks, Annette.
We've seen some of the fires and floods in Australia on TV; not good for those poor people.
I managed to get the Honda agency owner out today and he kindly 'broke' into the car and got the keys back. All for the cost of tea and Christmas cake--God bless him!

My last dog was called Muffin, and I still love it as the name for a fiesty canine companion! That's a bummer having your keys locked in the car. Where's a handy car theif when you need one? Lol, I'm sure you'll be able to work something out and breaking a window to get the keys won't be necessary.
Happy New Year!

Ha-ha! So I'm not the only one who had / has a Muffin! That's good to hear. My sons get embarrassed when I call her when visitors arrive: "Muffy! Muffy! Come!"
Oops--mothers and their dogs are embarrassing.

Hi, Nicole
= It's a good thing you knew what to do for Muffin.
= Many would have panicked--doing pet and/or human not good.
= My dad had to quit farming after he had a sun stroke in Ohio--hence we moved to California. HATED it.
= Give me the wide open spaces of the countryside any day!
= Great story. Thanks for sharing it.
= I hope you and your family have a blessed 2016.
* HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2016! *
Cheers & Blessings...

Muffy's back to normal, thank goodness. Heatstroke can be fatal--as you know.

I truly hope you have a Blessed New Year! I have a horrible habit of locking my keys in the car. I have a spare set in my purse, but when I lock my keys in the car I usually lock my purse with them. Oh my! I enjoyed reading your post.

I am glad it worked out. I pay OnStar $300 a year for that very reason. I do use other parts of OnStar too but not as often.
