I do not care for Donald Trump as a choice for President nor do I agree with the majority of his beliefs. I also do not agree with the Democrats desire to attack gun owners every time there is a shooting. Instead of identifying hate and a nation turning from God as the problem, they attack gun owners. This is no different than attacking an entire race because of a few bad people. Have a blessed week. God bless.

Thank you, Lance, and we completely agree on the Trump deal, and we'll just have to respectfully disagree on the gun thing. The way I see it, the gun manufacturer's have a shit-fit whenever even the weakest changes, like background checks, are even brought up. I mean, what do responsible gun owners have to fear from a background check? Sure, it won't stop every mass shooting, but if it stopped a couple, because an unhinged person was prevented from easily buying an AK47, or whatever? It wouldn't be much, but at least it's something.

The checks are there. The problem is it won't stop those intent on murdering. Unfortunately they can easily get all kinds of weapons on the black market. "Gun free zones" are where most of these shootings occur. This law only put more at risk because the criminal was the only one with a gun. I have no problem with the background checks I have encountered for my weapons. Most gun owners don't. It's just putting more laws out won't make people obey the law. Thanks for respectfully disagreeing. To many people just want it there way and refuse to listen to the other side. I truly appreciate a good conversation without bashing. I have learned some and hope others have as well. Have a blessed night.

Ditto here. It seems that the art of debating has devolved into name-calling. I know that background checks won't stop a person intent on killing, but it may discourage a mentally-disturbed person who just flips out. It's WAY to easy under the system we have now.

I love your poem, and I was being a cheerleader for your thoughts all the way through! The fact that it all rhymes is even more impressive. I'll tell you, I'm a teacher in Texas and my students who are Hispanic are scared out of their minds about Donald Trump and how he plans to treat people from Mexico.
Thank you for putting it out there and bravely voicing your opinions in a most creative way!
Excellent.

Thank you much, AG, and I guess I don't want Trump to come to symbolize what America stands for, he's an overt racist, sexist pig, who represents everything disgusting possible in politics, and he's the LAST person I want to be represented by.

There's so much passion and well justified anger in this poem!
It feels like you are shaking the bars and - who knows - maybe a few people whose minds are locked inside those harmful views might hear your lines as distant, dreamlike voices.
Those who agree, like myself, will take in every word - but how can we break down a nation worth of closed mindedness?

Yes, the macho attitude, promoting the aggressive revengeful, judgmental ideas became a plague. Guns are a symptom.

My favorite line is:
"a dude who rakes their undeserved fate over the coals"
Fantastic image!

Thank you for speaking up!

Thank you much, LT, and I really don't know how to change close minded people's minds--it seems to me that everything, politics included, is so polarized now. I don't ever remember it being this bad before, which is why left and right may as well be on opposite sides of The Grand Canyon. When did 'compromise' become a dirty word in politics, after all, isn't that what our political system based on? Or at least it used to be!
reply by lightink on 15-Dec-2015
I wish both compromise and compassion had more room in the politics - and in our everyday life!

G'day Sum Bitch. I'm still fighting this Trump of an internet signal, but I'm glad I caught this one brother. Very well stated mate. As an outsider, one who generally lives in a 3rd world country, I think this guy is a trouble maker and you said it very well once again mate. Good luck with it and him, if he lands the job.

Hopefully I'll catchya soon.

Cheers Fez

Thanks, Fez, sum bitch! I'm sorry to hear you're still having internet trouble. Yeah, this Trump guy is a REAL piece of racist, my ex-mother-in-law would call him a dong-nose--an fitting description, too--take care, there, sum bitch!

Mike--
Thanks for saying it like it is according to people like me, and apparently you. But it's clearer this time, isn't it? As the local folk singer sang at the Democrat dinner the other night to the tune of "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas..."

"He's beginning to look a lot like Hitler."

And folks love him and there is a certain tweak or twist of the heart, even my heart that says, yeah, well, I'm not so sure about those Moslems, either.

Maybe the country should have split, eh? All those deaths to keep the Casino King followers on board the Titanic.

Nice poem. Some work went into it and a lot of feeling. I hope we feel it at election time.

Thanks, Jeff, and I can only hope my words reach some, because I won't be able to electronically slap them, and scream, "WHAT the HELL are YOU DOING?"

Things today are pretty scary if you ask me. Your poem does a nice job describing some of the issues we are facing as a nation. Nice Job...

"What Must the World Be Thinking? " begs the question of each one of us, what are you thinking? We should all be very thankful for freedom of speech that we have in this nation and for the founding fathers who wanted to slip the surly bonds of despotism and created a governmental experiment that allowed for all opinions to be expressed, without fear of reprisal. One of the things that I've noticed in my years on this earth is that all of us can take very strong opinions and it's easy for us to see the folly of the other side, but not quite as easy to see the fallacies that we are espousing ourselves! Sometimes we need to be reminded that there are opinions that have validity in spite of the fact that we don't embrace them.

Love the idea. We live in a crazy world, and no one wants to step up and contradict someone with so much money. Thanks for writing it. I hope you get allot of positive feed back... but we'll see.

Thank you, Judvan2, and surprisingly, at least to me, the response has been mostly positive--oh-there are a few negative ones, but I fully expected to get reamed, at least by a couple, but so far, at least, so good!

A very good poem about a serious subject matter.
It really makes you think really hard about stuff.
It a very thought provoking poem.
Keep the good work.

You have written a brilliant poem that I wish the whole world could read and know that there are people in America such as yourself who feel as you do. (I do, too, of course)
I keep praying and giving my opinion to whomever will listen. I have to have hope.
Well done on the poem. Well spoken.
