I like tales of the sea and at least Charley died doing what he loved and despite his illness. You tell a tale in poetic form, it has vivid images of the sea and the desire of one, who wanted to follow his dream.

I enjoyed the story of Charley, his determination to work in a ship despite his current disease. He dreamt for so long which became a reality at the age of forty and ended up a hero, a cripple saving a drowning man in the sea. This is a celebration of triumph in the life of Charley. Thanks for sharing.

It is not very much fun being born a cripple, especially when you are surrounded by healthy siblings. This has an underscore of anger in it. Take it one day at a time.
Either you beat your disability or it will beat you.
