Well, Dean--the ending broadsided me, and I wish I had read this earlier in the day! As usual your gift of words equals your gift of storytelling. thanks! Caroline

A terrific story of the last few minutes in a family's lives. The sound effects alone are enough to send someone over the couch, but the grunting and gurgling of the undead freezes the blood. The description of the daughter makes all dads tremble at the thought of what's next. Two bullets would be nice.
(Which reminds me of The Office and the line:
If I had a gun with only two bullets in it and I were in a room with Osama Bin Ladin, Hitler, and Tobey... I'd shoot Tobey twice.)

A grim decision confronts a loving dad. A quick death, or a slow agonizing devouring. I wouldn't relish being eaten alive. Curtain call, grunts and groans, chubby cheeks, cacophonous crash, and more. Nice touches of alliteration in a narrative prose.

Freaky of course!
Reads like an episode of the walking dead!
Oh, the undead. Such an unruly bunch.
*reloads his cannon aimed for their heads.
Have some whiskey with me, Dean.
It's gonna be a long night of perpetual terrors.
*howls at the undead, bearing down on the front door

Sure, Bill. What are we drinkin' tonight? Gentleman Jack, Jim Beam or some Beefeater gin? I'll bring the clean glasses...unless you prefer to drink it straight from the bottle, like me.
Thanks for the sixer, and for reading and supporting there small snippets of horror. As always, I deeply appreciate it!

As always, you never cease to amaze me, or terrify me. I would do the same thing if faced with face-eating zombies. I would kill my child to protect her. If you get bit by a zombie, you become one, right? Half the people I work with must have been bitten. Happy Halloween!

This is terror-ific, Dean! What a choice to have to make. How do you kill your daughter? It's a scary thought. It's the type of scenario that nightmares are made of, where nothing makes sense. A great story to make you shiver on Halloween. Thanks for sharing!
cheers

This could be a dead end! By the way, my computer froze twice while I was trying to read this. Did you scare my computer to death? Evi

I knew you would be at your finest for the Halloween contests, but I see this isn't an entry. I am shocked. I did enjoy reading your poem. I would not advice reading it before bed. LOL

Very nice. A merciful death for his baby is far better than the alternative. Or he could have just barricaded the door. Nice little micro tale.

Or, he could have put the gun very tightly against his daughter's tiny skull and pressed his head very close to her own when he pulled the trigger. That way, the .45 round he had left would be sure to do 'em both in. He could'a done a lot of things, but not everyone reacts rationally in an irrational situation.
Thanks for the review, Lance...
