LOL - I was just about to say, after checking the category, I think these lines are perfect song lyrics when your author's note caught my eye as I scrolled back down to review :-)

The first thing I noticed was how even was the meter was from line to line (line 1S1 with S 2 L1 and so on) well done, Brett, the narrative sounds very country, well suited putting to the twangy guitar and country, well done, well scribed, thoughtful,, creative and poignant lyrics. With alternating aabb and mono rhyming, well done, blessings,, Roy.

Sadly, for most, this is a life lesson we learn at least once.

Let me guess--It's Trump's parting shot to Fox News. Excellent work in this one. Really singable lyrics. A great idea with the way you use "hurt feelings." Those strong, silent types do seem to have a soft spot in their hearts and melt easily. You always have to wonder if the gal is worth it. judi

A lot of great number one tunes topping the charts in their respective category over the years--as well as today--are far from having perfect rhyming or meter/schemes. That being said (and since you've been gracious enough to inform us that these are song lyrics and NOT a poem), hopefully folks who read this will take that into consideration before they start tearing it apart.
When we can read (and write for that matter) for the pure enjoyment of experiencing someone else's thoughts and feelings, I feel we get much more out of what we've read.
As for me, I got the message here loud and clear, Brett, and I loved every word of it!

Appreciate your comments very much my friend. Yes, indeed. I have had to go to telling people my poetry is actually song lyrics, not poems. Too many of them trying to rip it apart because it does not follow a set pattern. Glad you enjoyed these lyrics. Something I wrote several years ago and decided why not post them here as well for others to enjoy. I have always advised others to write for their own enjoyment. If not, what is it worth doing?
