Hi, Brett

_ While reading this, I couldn't help but remember the Pam Tillis song, 'Spilled Perfume'. Awesome, song.
_ This is really good story in your lyrics---a all good country is.
_ Nicely penned and presented---good choice of artwork too.

Cheers & Blessings

-I found the title and picture intriguing.
-I like the uses of the spilled perfume in your lines.
-It is appropriate for a broken relationship.
-I like the use of alliteration in this line:
"Our love's been shattered by a slamming door"
-You capture the man's emotion well.

I like the three-line verses and the meter of this poem. It is very easy to imagine it in a song, accompanied with skillful strings

I can hear this being put to music. The first lines are a good hook, and the rest of the message is clear. Keep up the good work.

Hi Brett,
I'm sitting here, thinking about your poem. Spilled perfume says all there is to say.
Made me wonder. Why would you spill perfume? Is it when you put it on? Or did he spill the perfume deliberately because he didn't want to be reminded of her?
How can the spilled perfume set her free?
I'm probably down the wrong road with my thoughts. Help?
:) Tessa

The spilled perfume is her putting it on and him knowing why she did. Glad you enjoyed these Country lyrics. Your comments and support appreciated.

You'd rather let him hold you tight
Than be with me in the broad daylight
And spilled perfume is taking you away.

I was just going to say this sounded like a country music song!

What do you do with your songs, if I may ask...?

I have a friend who knows A LOT of the stars in Nashville and her hubby drives tour buses for a bunch of them AND their daughter is an amazing singer trying to get started herself. Right now, she (the daughter) is still doing covers....

hmmmm...

Covers is a good way to get started out as a Singer. My lyrics are fair game for anybody interested in possibly recording them. They are copyrighted, and I do not mean just here on FanStory. And that person would need to make contact with me to discuss recording them before it ever happened though. It is how the business works. Making it in Country music is a hard road, but can be done. Perhaps that is her destiny.

The sadness in repeating :"spilled perfume" shakes up the poem with the acknowledgment of the affair. This is a perfect theme for a country song. I can hear the slow strumming of a guitar and a drums following behind the words. The narrator's pain fills the page and the reader can almost taste his heartbreak. Great poem.

Hi, while this writing is strong and direct holding to the end with one subject in mind ,it is a very sad piece of writing , heart broken. She is gone or wants to go, well this is hard. Knowing it as you do, will you still be happy to be with her.
A question for you only.

I like the repetition of the spilled perfume, the thing that made him wake up to reality. Well expressed message of love and good use of rhyming. One thing, last verse should read 'than be with me'. Enjoyable read. faye
