Wow! Did you ever get my blood boiling with this one! I am incensed by the videos of the activities of Planned Parenthood and a strong supporter of right to life. You have captured brilliantly and vividly why so many of us are revolted by the idea of killing babies and selling their body parts. Vivid, concrete, emotional - all packed in just a few words. Best of luck in the contest. Sue

Thank you so very much Sue. It's good to get support. I''m sure to get negative reactions from the other side.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully with a correct line and syllable count in the stanza. You deliver a candid and powerful piece. I wish you all the best in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Thank you Mystic Angel. I'm sure its controversial content will put off voters.
-
You can never tell around here - it is a good piece regardless of whether or not the voters approve. If we worried over voters we'd become politicians and not write from the heart as we are intended to.

Well written. The theme of this poem is timely and the message it puts forth reflects the tragic conditions our society has allowed to happen. The helplessness and anger come through well.

This is a well written Tableau. Dot on syllable count and an original subject: abortion. I am not against abortion but on a very conservative side. My sister does abortions and most conscientious. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you Ine. I do believe there are valid reasons. Just not because its "inconvenient". Hope I didn't offend your sister.

I am so glad you have joined the tableau gang. This is the fourth I have reviewed to date. I checked both OED and Merriam Webster on tableau and both came up with the idea of something static. If this is not stressed then we will get nothing more than the conventional imagery with which we are all familiar. For example, we are all familiar with the dynamic of the last supper but Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting, like a snapshot, captures one single point in that dynamic and that painting is a tableau. I am sure that is what Emily Romano had in mind.
To be honest with you I think there is too much movement, the overall operation, the dynamic, going on in your poem. Because this Tableau effect has not been stressed I am giving everyone who has written a reasonable attempt a 5 because otherwise I shall have all the hornets buzzing round my ears.
I hope you are with me on this because, if we don't nip it in the bud early, this interesting form will go the way of the poor old haiku and become indistinguishable from conventional imagery.

Thank you Pantygynt. You must have noticed that I modified the stated requirement by adding a "striking or dramatic" picture to the definition. Not sure what you are getting at about too much movement. As a battle scene and galloping horse is a striking image with movement.
-
I think you may be confusing a Tableau with a Pastoral. Then again, maybe the British prefer their Wellington posed in a chair rather on a steed charging Napolean,
-
When one of Wellington's officers said he reckoned he could get a good shot at Napoleon and could he have go Wellington replied Good Lord No Generals have better things to do than go around shooting each. The iron duke stayed well back where all generals should be! The last thing you need in a battle is a bloody general getting in the way.

Your poem paints a picture of pain and torture. The sterile equipment created an image of indifference by the surgeon to the woman's trauma of the abortion. I would not go as far as to say abortion is 'sanctioned murder' as it is consensual. But you're right in the sense that in the unborn child's mind he has been killed without his/her consent. That to me is the shocking reality of this procedure.

A great tableau. You bring the picture across clearly, I never had an abortion but I gave birth to my three children and I can imagine what it must feel like to go through an abortion. I agree with you 100% it is murder, unless it is done to safe the mother's life. Good luck with the contest

Thank you Teresa. I believe there are reasonable exceptions, but to get one because it's "inconvenient" is appalling.
