Hi Val/Sasha

i'm sure you don't fail with your poetry, especially if you have achieved wins with free verse ... my favourite form along with the Japanese short forms. You certainly haven't failed in the letter writing ... this is superb and a lovely letter. It expresses the deep emotion and friendship you feel for Brooke and have out-lined so much of her personality for those who perhaps don't know her well. She is such a private person yet has given so much to so many .... delighted us with her poems and her wonderful relationships with Miranda and Sawyer have been wholeheartedly shared. All who have had the pleasure of knowing her, have had smiles on their faces from the joy of life she always brings to her work. Her social comments, children's' poetry and her love of nature and protecting the world's wonders have made us concerned, made us laugh, held us in awe at her poetic knowledge and talent ... and made us wonder how she had time to touch the poetic lives of so many fans. She is an inspiring woman of strong leadership ... and will expect us to accept whatever is install for her. I do hope she is the exception and will live a quality of life. Our beloved Moreen has defied the medical diagnosis of her condition ... she and Brooke come from a similar mold with strong personalities ... both value life so much.

A loving and expressive letter, Brooke will certainly love it. Hugs - Lovinia xoxo

Yes, both Brooke and Maureen have shown us that they are strong women and I also agree, that both would want/expect us to accept what is in store for them. It has been a hard year for many FS members and like everyone else, I was not prepared for the shock of Brooke's illness.

Yes you're quite right, woman with great spiritual strength. Now it seems our dear misscookie is absent as well. I sent her a note with no response, I hope she is OK. So many good people having a rough time in some form or another ... that's life I guess, though doesn't make it easier to accept when they are close to our hearts. I hope you're well anyway. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

What a splendidly beautiful letter. Your ability to be abidingly direct and your use of concise language always makes your message zing off the page. I did not realize that Brooke was ill, and my prayers join yours! Caroline

I'm sure when she is able to she'll be right back on here every chance she gets. It might not be today, tomorrow or next week but I believe she's a fighter and you can't keep a fighter down. Great job friend and I'm sure she'll get to read this :)

I hope you are right. Severe Aggressive MS is the worst type you can get. It hits hard fast and few survive. Brooke is strong and she has the support of her family and all her friends. I pray she gets through this and returns to us soon.

Maybe her family will read some of these to her if anything. She'll love them

Valerie, this is a wonderful written Ode to our dear poet, Brooke. The art work of daisies is very appropriate since she wrote so diligently about them a one of her awesome poems. Great job, my dear. I'm hopeful, she'll be back with us soon.

What a lovely letter to Brooke, Sasha/Val. You touched on so many aspects of Brooke that make her the special writer/reviewer/mentor/friend she has been, and hopefully remains, on this site. You know I agree with her, however, regarding your ability to write poems. I'd love to get you in a haibun class LOL! I'm sure your words will touch Brooke's heart. Sue

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Brooke with us. I have many of the same emotions. I'm not a poet either, but often try my luck with them. Brooke always something kind to say about them. She faithfully reads all of my prose.

Brooke is the reason I stayed with FS and completed my book. Her enthusiastic encouragement was what I needed and I hope she knows how much her mentoring means to me.

Thank you for this prose poem tribute to Brooke. We know she convinced all who read her poems about dandelions that they are not weeds and we watched Sawyer become a little boy through her verse. I wrote to Brooke about two weeks ago letting her know I missed her but have not received an answer--so, I don't know what is wrong with her. Whatever it is, I hope she mends soon and returns to share and teach more. Thinking positive thoughts... -Joan, from Madrid

She was recently diagnosed with severe aggressive MS, the worst type you can get. She has been hospitalized and so far, we haven't heard any more about her condition.

Thank you for providing me with the details. My mother was diagnosed with MS when she was in her late 50's and lived until 84. She spent her last 5 years in a nursing home but never lost her faculties. Let's hope for at least as much for Brooke. Warm regards- Joan

The survival rate of severe aggressive MS is very low, but I do hope Brooke is the exception and is able to return to us again.
reply by Joan E. on 31-May-2015
She is exceptional in so many ways--we can only hope this is another and she will fight for and win additional good years. -J

A lovely letter to Brooke who taught you to write poetry. You say you flunked. But there is more to teaching than just getting children to achieve their objective and reading this work of yours, Brooke knew that and gave you encouragement to keep going. You are, because here you are writing this. Brooke will appreciate this letter. Warm regarding Dorothy x

Valerie,

This is a beautiful letter and a wonderful tribute to Brooke. I'm sure that, if she can read it or have it read to her, she will be smiling. Well done.

Lois

Thank you very much. I am not a poet but had to write something for my dear friend and mentor. I pray every day that she comes back to us.

I'm officially surrendering to the tears that have been threatening since I heard the news today. But I have to add that I laughed out loud at your description of following behind your mother to re-plant the dandelions she'd dug up - Brooke will no doubt laugh too, even if she's already heard the story.

God bless you, Valerie/my Sasha, for saying the very things that need to be said at such a time. I pray her into God's hands too. That's all we can do (and the best we can do.) Love, Dawn

Yes, Brooke knew of that story and laughed every time I told her about it. My heart is truly broken and I haven't stopped crying since I heard the news. I agree, it is in God's hands now and I do hope he hears our prayers.

I'm sorry, Valerie - I wish there was more that I could say.
