This haiku, A Holiday in the Fall, presented as a 5-7-5, reminds the readers that we have set aside days to recall the fallen and those who serve.

You have made excellent use of your seventeen syllables in this thoughtful, moving piece. So many events, people, etc., we celebrate/commemorate at certain times we should think of daily.

You followed the rules and you said a great deal in a few words. Your illustration, of course, pairs perfectly with your words. This is very nicely done.

Nothing is guaranteed to raise more argument amongst the poetic classes than Japanese short-form poetry, such as Haiku and Tanka. Traditionally haiku involve nature and should have a seasonal reference. It is certainly more than simply a form relying on syllabic count. Most commonly, the third line (sometimes the first) is known as the satori line that should offer enlightenment, which is what satori means.
This is a good 5-7-5 but for the reasons stated I do not consider it a haiku.

Thanks for your three stars and reviewing. Sometimes I find haikus on this site a little different and I am aware that haiku are about nature not human nature.
But once again thanks.

Thank you! If this reminder was ever needed it's today. The unrest we are witnessing today reveals that too many people have lost patriotism and are showing their lack of education as far as history is concerned. Thanks for posting.

I'm not a poet by any means, but I thought haikus were supposed to deal with nature. I think you wrote a pretty good 5-7-5 poem which as a veteran I can appreciate. Good luck in the contest.

You are correct, but to my defense how about human nature.
I guess I was so excited to write it, I will kick it around. Thanks for the five stars and honest review. I really know the Japanese haiku is about nature but I have seen them on here in other ways.

For as long as you have life, show your appreciation by celebrating life and the life giver and his power to sustain it. When it is gone, you will not be able to reclaim it..

I would not leave you in times of trouble, we never could have come this far.
Baby got back.
Late at night I stay up late and think of you. It's not that fun.
You're unbelievable. And there's no way i could pay you back, but my plan is to make you understand, you are appreciated.

Hi there,
This is a great universal 5-7-5, not concentrating on one specific day but reminding everyone to keep the tradition going all through the year. nicely chosen words.
