As I read this, I could almost "hear" this song set to country music. I think you have a winner here, especially as lyrics. The poem has a kind of "country-rhythm" to it, and the lyrics sound just like the message of a country-western song.

A contest entry. A reminiscence poem. The writer writes his nostalgic feelings about parting with his loved one. He remembers the time they were together
and he drives away his pain by drinking bear or liquor. The rhyme is excellent. His expressions are straightforward. And he is still hoping that his lover may call
or return while he is in town reminiscing--celebrating--remembering the days gone by. Congratulation's. Dom

The story line flowed nicely from line to line and the rhyme was good throughout the poem.
Set 'em up, slam 'em back, and forget you once again. Was a touch of genius.

It sounds very much like a country song with all the melancholy that goes with it, the lyrics are skilfully and deftly crafted poem, the language is great and descriptively image creating, the meter/tempo is even and the abab rhyming plus proximates, well done, blessings, Roy.
