This is well written and tells a story. Often those people who have the most responsible jobs are the ones who most need to write in order to express who they really are.

Thank you, Judy! And you're right, writing can be therapeutic when you think hard all day, and make decisions that effect other's lives!

Your story brought a smile to my face when that computer surfaced. The story did remind me of how thrilled I was when I received a Sheaffer pen for 8th grade graduation. It held so much promise. Good work.

Thank you so much for the review and support! Yes, the mighty pen has been replaced, but forever in our hearts, resides!

This is a good approach to the prompt, comparing the day to day function of a job to the love of 'sacred' writing, the vehicle for transporting the writer to 'places she could never go in life'. That, for most of us aspiring writers, is the joy of the experience. It was good to acknowledge the place of computers in the modern process, bu the sacred pen is iconic in expressing the art. Very enjoyable read; best of luck in the vote.

Thank you so much for the review and feedback! You're right, the pen is iconic, and the way we all got started, at least those of us who aren't digital natives. Thanks for the comments. You are an excellent writer and an honest reviewer.

The pen is mightier than the sword,,,,,,, or something like that... However, the feel of a fabulous laptop is just as thrilling. And,,, it has spellcheck. Wonderfully written, good luck.

You know, Carolyn, you are absolutely right about the spell check. Beyond accessibility, I think that's the computer's greatest gift!
Thanks for the review!

I love it! Beautiful prose. Well crafted. Best of all, I connect with the sentiment. Writing with a pen is slow going. A keyboard is so much faster. :-)

Thank you so much! I think I've almost forgotten how to use a pen, too. Thank goodness for technology!
Comment from Dean Kuch
Yes, sadly the old pen, pencil and paper routine is becoming a thing of the past where writing is concerned. I still use them to jot down plot outlines and story ideas, but I fully realize I am in the minority where that's concerned. It's just that for me, some old habits are hard to break away from.
The computer age has made writing and submitting to prospective publishers much easier today that in days of bygone years. I suppose that's a good thing.
Well done, it captures an instance of time during one particular writers thought process.
Good luck! ~Dean

Thank you, Dean, but I'm with you on the jotting. I keep a legal pad beside my "desk", which is anywhere my laptop will go. I have all kinds of ideas handwritten. It just feels right to have it there. But, of course, I mainly use the technology!
Thanks for the review and comments!

My pleasure. It's nice to know I'm not alone, at least, lol... :)

You mean, like alone in the dark? Wahaha.
-
Well, yeah. That too, heh-heh....
Although, I gotta tell ya', I prefer the darkness. It's so much more peaceful there...

Depends on what you're reading. Sometimes you have to switch on the light!
-
Or light candles...black ones...like I have burning now...
-
Good thing I fell asleep before I read that, scary guy!
-
Well, today is another day, right? At last it is in my part of the world. No candles are needed now. :)
-
Mine, either! You do have a gift for getting right to the heart of horror, and you need very few words to do it!

It seems I can't write much with a pen anymore because my hands cramp up. So, the computer keys are a blessing and so much faster as well.
It is such a thrill to manipulate words to form an interesting story of poem. Writing can be fun or frustrating.

Thank you for reviewing and leaving a comment.
In my olden days of writing, I had notes and arrows all over the place as new ideas came up. Writing on the computer sure makes things cleaner!

Nice and interesting take on the subject of the contest. I like the sum up and the two dement ions that the writer was working in. Also the thought that she was master of her pen .

Thanks for taking the time and effort to review. I did try to tie the old and new, and to be honest, I may have forgotten how to use the old!
Comment from Bill Schott
It's nice to have a token of the writer's craft that hardens back to the Hemingways and Steinbecks. The word processor, however, connects the writer to a dozen tools and instant gratification.

Thank you for the review, Bill. I was trying to tie yesteryear and now, although I wrote my first story in crayon!

I ove this, beautifully crafted prose. It takes the reader on a short journey into a stranger's life. It is interesting and original, well done. Good luck in the contest, Regards, Wendy.

Thank you, Wendy, but I think "Writer's Funk" is blowing us away! That's okay, though. It's the chase that's fun. Thanks for the sweet review!9
