Oh no! Just when I thought he was okay, and it was just a dream, you hurl us back into the gory scene of before. Very clever! The clock flashing adds to the suspense, and compliments your short story beautifully. This certainly had a beginning, middle and end!

I should know by now not to read your posts before bedtime. Pleasant scream indeed. Thanks a rot.

This is exceptional storytelling and flash fiction that set up a gory situation which turned out to be a dream and then not. Thank you also for the author's notes which explained what Lamia is.

I will now search for a poem about butterflies so I can get Lamia out of my mind (and face) before bedtime. Cheers.

Thanks a million, Sis Cat! You're very welcome, LOL... All of the stories in this book will be either old tales told around campfires for years, or urban legends, myths, and even ideas contributed by fellow members. If a member sends me an idea, and I use it, they will receive credit in my author's notes, but the tale will have my unique spin on it, if you will. So, send me those nightmares, those childhood beasties that lurked in your dark closet as a child. I can use all of the ideas I can get!

Thnks so much again for your review, my friend. Nighty-night, heh-heh... ~Dean

Once I turned down the sound (wasn't going to take a chance!) I was able to read. Short enough to read and run!! :)

I remember Keats' poem.

This would win if it was in a contest, Dean.

Have a great weekend.

No, no screams, thanks. Ugh. :)

I got goosebumps!!!! Can't wait to read more. This kind of stuff fascinates me. Keep up the good work. I didn't see anything wrong, no errors and I like how you elaborated on the history of the myth. Scary stuff.

Thanks for the exceptional rating and kind words, sharonmealler. I 'm very grateful to you. Hopefully I can keep coming up with enough material to fill an entire book with these types of stories. I'm guessing it'll take somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-70 such stories to do so. Seven down, 63 to go, LOL.

    Thanks so much again! :}

Hi Dean,
This is a very clever write.
Good tension building scenario
but it didn't scare me.
After boot camp very little scares me.
Now that was a true nightmare. There I wasn't scared I was terrified. But Horror stuff is good to laugh at, but only sometimes. I watched the mummy's Daddy from your link in the reviews. Now that was FUNNY I laughed all the way through that. In the last scene you could have had the actor mummy tapping the director on the shoulder trying to get his attention while he is unwrapping the real mummy. Surprise! Oops LOL. Hey at least you got something on film. That is really something. Did you write the script for it ?

Thanks, Kriver. I really appreciate you awesome feedback. Yeah, I was a Jarhead myself (Semper Fi) from 1980-'86, and did my recruit training at Parris Island. I then went to Ft. Benning GA. and on to the Philippines for sniper training. And, as Forrest Gump liked to say..."And that's all I got to say 'bout that."

Spielberg sent out an invitation to struggling authors to submit an original story for a new series he was putting together at the time called, Amazing Stories. Sort of a Twilight Zone-type series. They asked me if I'd be interested in creating a story for the show. Naturally, I told them sure, I'd like to try. I submitted my story (they got my name from the publishers of Twilight Zone Magazine whom I'd published with on two occasions) Called "My Mummy was a Daddy", with the premise of the show you viewed -- episode #4 of season one. They bought the exclusive rights for $1000.00 for five years, changed the name to "Mummy Daddy", and the rest is television history, LOL.

It's the first and last story I've ever had that's made onto film.

Thanks again for the review. I really appreciate it. ~Dean

Funny how the old tribes passed legends around. Lilith, first wife of Adam, was turned into a night demon for wanting to get on top according to one tale in
Jewish lore. Well written short one.

Hahaha, I'll have to remember that, Red. Sounds like there could be a story in there somewhere. Much obliged for the info and review.~Dean

Yep. That one will keep me screamin' in my sleep for a minimum of 5 years. I'm not a gory fan since I'm a nurse and get my fill but every now and then I remember why I don't like crossing that line. I will sleep with the closet closed now, thank you.

Hi Dean.
Wow, you packed a lot of scary into this flash-fiction story of just over one hundred words...amazing!
Loved the story line and I was confused for only a moment as you had the clock flashing ta 12:00 and the horror to Frank was at 12:01.
That, however, added to the "Gulp" factor at the end.
Again, loved it: wish I had a six to drop on it!
Have a great weekend, DeanO.... Bill

Once again I wonder if I should always try to find out if you've posted earlier in the day instead of after midnight - this is most definitely the stuff of nightmares, and if my closet door moves tonight, I'm sending whatever comes out over to YOUR house. (MuWaahaaaha - LOL)

Good stuff, for the horror buff, as always!
