Yes, Debra, too many goodies are not good....Only wish my mom would have not had so many sweets at our house to eat when I was little...She definitely was a sugar addict...And, so very hard to give up pastries, etc. when older...I really liked your clever & somewhat true poem, as the metaphor of your last line indicates & how we moms can see that occurring, from kids getting high on sugary goodies....When, Oh, Sweet Granny, this Super Granny, says goodbye...or even when she is there to witness handing out what makes her so popular with the grandkids...Maybe she should be advised, carrot & celery sticks, the next time to prevent those sugary jolts of energy that always seem to occur....And, maybe, she'll learn a thing or two.
Thanks for sharing...Caressa

Hi Caressa - my kids would be horrified if I gave them celery sticks! I've had words with Super Gran on a number of occasions about moderating the amount of goodies she gives the kids - it works for a week or 2 and then she forgets herself again! Thanks for your great feedback :) love, Debra

Try putting some cream cheese in the celery sticks & maybe a bit of honey mixed in, not as bad as sugar.....I particularly don't like celery sticks by themselves, either...When it comes to Gram ..just maybe she eats what she brings & it has affected her in this way & also getting up in age.....Nice viewing your work again...Hope to read more in the next couple of days...As come & go here...C.

Lol well turn em hyper and we all go to the kitchen to fetch the fish slice so we can peel em off the ceiling :) Sugar overdose, but I think it is just a little lobe overdose really, bet the super granny really just loves them all the same and the kids love it to, just means they run you ragged until the following day... or maybe the day after that! Know she means well but when they only calm down for tea the following day it can be pretty hairy in the household! Rant over ... until next weekend when she visits again lol. Love the sentiments and fun factor mixed with despair here, sugar laden melancholy, with smiles and helps the medicine go down!

Hiya :) Thanks for your great feedback - I'm sure she means well, but she doesn't have to deal with the aftermath of all the sugar and E numbers! Kindest regards, Debra :)

Your poem is in excellent 5/7/5 syllable count and has me laughing
excellent visuals that explain the situation and your frustration about it well
good alliterative pairing of super and strikes
what's a grown daughter to do? LOL

All grandmas like to spoil grand-children--mine always did!
Well-penned little poem on the evils of candy, as grandparents distribute sugary treats much to parent's dismay.
A pleasurable read of both the young and old!

I am wondering now, if you are not a friend of my daughter-in-law, she told me how much she dreaded me coming over and giving my granddaughter chocolates and sweets. I am not allowed to go to far with my grandson, she lets me buy him a little gift of some sort. We had a laugh, and I have promised to behave myself! LOL. love them all to bits. (and I have sneaky suspicion they love me a bit too! ) Keep scraping, or drop a quiet hint, or, do what Sue did to me. Tell her off!! We do take it well. :) xsx Sandra

Hmmmm..... I think you're probably a lot more reasonable than SuperGran. I've tried, but it's in one ear and out the other with her!
I know she means well and I don't mind her treating the kids, but too much of a good thing isn't good!
Love, Debra x

Perhaps you can suggest she gives them an apple instead of sweets. Tell her how much you would be in her debt if she could help you to get her grandchildren to eat healthily after seeing so many obese children around and how you know of some that have diabetes now because of too much sugery things. It might work, and get your hubby involved too. I might have laughed, but it isn't really a laughing matter. My brother was born a diabetic, he is only 50 now, and his arteries have hardened through all those years on injections. It keeps him alive, but now it is fighting back. I wish you luck, but be firm as well as nice.

Debra; Sorry for you but I must say that this was quite humorous. Chuckle! Chuckle!
You see the grandmother doesn't realize the aftermath of her episodes of her feeding sugar to the children. And the fact that she's leaving them with you to take care of of them is the bouncing off the walls. And excellently done a 5/7/5 syllabic format which I enjoyed reading very much. Thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always Debra.

Oh, we grannies are terrible. Now, the question is----When you become a grannie, will you be a sugar fairy or an old witch? Ha Never mind. I know the answer. Cute one, Debra.
