This is a great senryu, Shari! I sure did miss your wit. I love the clever satori 'dependent clauses'. He'll just be some guy with a big white beard until next november. I enjoyed much!

Glad to hear from you again. Hope you find time to post some more this year.

Ouch! Did I just hear a grammar pun? LOL! Only you would risk that on a writing site, Shari. Kudos! I see you're in rare form for the new year. May it be filled with biting sarcasm and groanless puns. My hubby would love spending an hour with you (fully clothed, at the kitchen table, of course) since he's severely pun-addicted. I should write down some of his bizarre abuse of words. On second thought, the world has enough misery. :)

I had a friend eons ago who could out pun anyone. It's considered the lowest form of humor, you know. Yep, you should write down your hubby's word play. AS for spending time with him, could we play strip pun? BTY Congratulation for landing the big one (no pun intended.)

LOL! Thanks. I'm retiring from trophyland now. I had a 2, then a 3, and now a 1, so I have nowhere to go and limited shelf space, unlike Margaret, who is back to claim yet another, I see. :)
I'm going to finish BLAZE and then relax for a while and build up 1000 FS dollars from reviewing. By then I'll have the itch again.
By the way, those who say puns are the lowest form of humore only say that cuz they can't think of any good ones. Mark gets really creative. Sometimes I groan, but sometimes I also have to applaud. Good idea to write them down! :)

Sounds like a plan. :-)

LOL. Was he drunk? Or just a plain old bad Santa? You always have a nice twist to your writing as in "dependent clauses" Too bad you couldn't have entered this in a contest. Well crafted. Les

I don't get the exposure on prompts unless the writer's name can be displayed. Santa's neither drunk or bad, just seasonal. Of course, who knows what he does for the rest of the year.

Hi Shari
Happy New Year ... I hope you enjoyed your Christmas. Mine seem to get a little hustle and bustle each year. I used to love it, now I enjoy the peace and quiet. :)
A great senryu with your usual sharp wit, this form seems to come so naturally to you. Off the mark on the first day of 2015, and many others, kudos to you.
Very clever to find an image so perfect to complement your poem. Love your word play with "clauses" and feeling sorry for Santa, then I remembered he's probably in his red over-alls overseeing the toy production for next year. Well done. A chickle to begin the New Year. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

Oh dear, I hate to tell you this at your tender age, but there is no Santa overseeing toy production. He outsourced the job to China a long time ago. :-( Shari xxx too.

WHAT! It can't be true?
Damn ... I wanted a job in the North Pole, where it's freezing instead of this sweltering heat.
I wondered why I didn't get a reply to my letter.
I suppose you're going to tell me the Easter Bunny isn't real?? :))) L xoxo extra.

Hah! Well, yeah, of course they're dependent clauses now, Spitfire. They are in need of a new line of work, and dependent upon a crappy economy to provide them with one.
I certainly wish all the Santas' the best of luck. They're gonna need it!

I entered the contest to get into your mind, so each reply is fodder. :-)

Hi Spitfire,
Love your play on words, "Claus/clause"
"A dependent clause (also called a subordinate clause) is a clause that cannot
stand alone, because something about it implies that there is more to come."
And it's true... year after year, the Big Guy comes back, always on December 24th or the wee hours of December 25th. Mall Santas depend on the head honcho.
Terrific senryu! Good for you.
Happy New Year!

Originally, I used "subordinate clause" but decided to change it for those who don't know what it is --and probably still don't. LOL

Clever and funny! If we can keep Santa/s from going too far South into boozing and drugging, lol...I mean, many of them have personality. Encourage them to become comedians might be one avenue, lol.
Thanks for sharing!

I wouldn't know about the personality. Haven't sat in Santa's late for a long, long time.
-
Well, the personality I speak of too often comes from a bottle...Jack Daniel's, Southern Comfort, etc. I've observed some loaded Santas on the street...
I never sat in their laps. I often yanked off their hats and blew my nose in 'em for good luck. That's probably why I'm still alive...

You always get a smile from me when I come to the end of the last line.
No one writes senryu like you do, Shari!
Happy New Year, dear.
Hugs,

Thanks, Sonali, for your generous praise. May 2015 be the best yet.
Comment from Gloria ....
Aw poor Santa/s. No longer needed to be seen publicly, so now it's back to work behind the scenes doing the dangling participles. Very fun, senryu, Shari. I'm glad their costumes are back in mothballs.
Happy New Year to you. :)

Hahahaha. Or should I say hohohohohoho? Great word play here. Nice humor. Sad that even Santa experiences unemployment. You really are the master of the senryu...
