You get across the idea of the wonderful family Christmas and that it's nice to give presents, just as it is to receive them. Great description of Grandmother's reaction to her gift. With our family, the children have the task of handing out the gifts, so they can't jump right into opening theirs. Nice warm family setting. Leave off the "in" in the sentence "They are nice and warm slippers in." judi

Yes, that is exactly the way it works. There is joy in both the giving and the receiving. You convey the atmosphere of Christmas Day quite well. Doesn't some of the tradition emanate from Holland? Like the Yule log and mistletoe?
