So sorry about you having to lose your hearing for some unknown reason.,. causing you not to become a music conductor.

I'm no stranger to having to deal with someone who has a hearing loss, being my husband lost much of his because of being stationed on many aircraft carriers that didn't take precautions in the late 60's and early 70's to protect sailors from this...Though, at present, he is no fan of hearing aids.. and wears his just occasionally.

Well, at least you were able to visit Tasmania, and that must of been exciting, though I know it would have been better to have a dad there to raise you...
instead of a trip...Though, I know it was a highlight for you then as a teenager.

Thanks for letting us know...It was a good read...Caressa_08

Another great trip Dr Sankey, I'm still reading so you're doing something right. Note; To Dr Sankey. Mabaker doesn't do SPAGS! So if you have anything incorrect I can't see it so I won't comment. Great read. Enjoying it. Sincerely Anne.

Hello Geoff,

The music class with the 'gaggle of girls' could have been interesting. Pity you quit!

Facebook a great medium to communicate with old friends.

Sorry about your hearing. Things could have been quite different for you.

Hope you've had a good week.

It must have been so exciting, the anticipation of your dad coming home and then such a disappointment that he left again after an hour. The violin seems like a hard instrument to learn.

Yes, Sis, it was and I really had my hopes he would stay. I think later on there is more information of what might have been. Hope you will stay with me.

Enjoyed this chapter very much my friend. Sounds like you are a very talented man. The possibility of being a conductor had it not been for your hearing is quite impressive. Also playing the violin at such a high level is also impressive. Sounds like some good times, but sad times also, especially that visit from your dad you speak about. Thanks for sharing my friend, God bless.

Do you regret turning in the tickets to the train ride?
What were your feelings, whether good or bad to the orchestra disappointment? I'm sorry, I just like to know feelings that are today, too

A very well-written story of your experiences as a growing child. As a child I often wished I could go for music lessons, but there was no funds available for that kind of luxury. After start working for my own money, I went for a few lessons and start playing the piano and organ from there on, nowadays I teach small children the love for music and their first lessons.

We spent three years in Australia and I always enjoy reading about it. Your chapter was well written and kept my interest. I don't see anything that needs to be corrected.

Thanks, Kathleen. These old chapters I edited again recently using Grammarly. Trouble is even when you set Grammarly for British English spelling it still wants to spell things American in a couple of cases. I added a brand new Introduction chapter to this book but sadly there are no rewards on it if you are interested. Hope you will come back there are some rewards on other chapters too as there will be in days to come for chapters ahead of this one.

Very interesting memoir portion; enjoyed it tremendously. It's hard to pick up a story in the middle, so to speak of course, and there are a few unanswered questions so I do hope to catch the next chapter. Obviously our aren't a writer from the USA so there are several colloquialisms I don't understand. It would be helpful if you made a list of expressions that may be misunderstood or need definition. (Bursary exam..., billet for instance.) Hope your dad eventually came home.
Thanks for sharing your story here.
Smiles and blessings

Thanks Roberta what an interesting name. Any relation to the old Confederate General Lee? I am glad you picked up the Aussieness of this book. I did a new chapter for Introduction when I first came back to do another edit through here. No rewards on it sorry I did explain my differences but not specifically. billet is to board visitors. Bursary is probably British like a Scholarship. I hope you will come back thanks for the heads up I will add some explanations in the Author notes now you have asked.

Hehe, thanks, I figured you weren't. That man was a wonderful Man of God. Looking forward to seeing him in Heaven some day. He did not want to fight the war but being a Virginian he felt obligated to do so.

Thanks, I agree hard to pick stuff up in the middle have often gone back myself, at no reward for the sake of getting the gist of it all. Cheers.

On biographical ground, this non-fiction is a clear voice counting down memory lane, school days, parental support, teachers help, all structured and organised well in a free flow of thoughts, stepped progression, tour-trip informative, educational sentiment; I liked and enjoyed the sharing in expressive words.

Thanks friend not sure if we have met before your Member name rings a bell so maybe we have. The other reviewer has pointed out some explanation I need to give for American readers so I will work on that. I did do an Introduction as a new chapter to this much-edited work if you are interested just sorry no rewards left on it.
