Hi Nancy,
I quite enjoyed this historical poem.
After recently watching a television series called Hell on wheel based on Bohanan and the building of the railroad I found your poem so easy to relate to.
The words flowed freely with vivid and descriptive language and told a tale of a very tough, violent and memorable time in history.

Nancy, this is wonderful. A great story of the railroad workers, told with realistic
imagery, rhyme and meter. It just flows along while giving the reader a taste of the old west and the men who made such progress across the country.
This should have been in a "Share a story in a poem contest!
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and also your author notes.
Have a great day!
Nancy

Thank you so much for the six Nancy. This is a revive. Some of these stories in this book were in the contest at different times. Only one of them made first, The Shootest I think. Anyhow the second poem in the book.I love writing these. LOL Have a great day. Nancy

A fabulous story in a poem . Loved the perfect rhyme. I see you posted it in 2014. How does that work? I'm a Newbie.. I would give you six stars but I have none left.

The poems have to be at least two years old so you don't need to worry about it yet. LOL It seems like it takes forever to get to there. Thank you for the review and stars Jen. Nancy

My Grandpa worked for the railroad back in his day and he had lots of stories to tell. He was injured and had to leave the railroad when his leg got caught when they were backing up the train brushing it badly.

You are one of the few who can tell a story
through poetry and forget that we are reading
poetry! This is one of those examples. You have
given the reader a dramatic story that also has a
message of the American idealism.

I always loved your Western stories, and this one is extra special because your family were there are the beginning. You must be proud of them, Nancy. This is a really lovely story in a poem, my friend, and the rhyming was excellent with perfect internal and end rhyme. Always a pleasure. xxx big hugs, my friend. Sandra x

That old movie How the West was Won was on our screens again over here. I always wonder what it must be like sitting right on top of your history like you do in the USA. I know it sounds silly but we have too much history to choose from really. Yours is right behind you.

I thoroughly enjoyed your poem you really brought those days to life.

Thank you Jim. I know what you mean. Our country is still a baby compared to yours. Watch for "Hell on Wheels" Now that is some series. It is about the railroads and Mormons, Irish, Chinese.
Lots of history! Thanks for the review and stars. Nancy

Well done Nancy. A great worded and smoothly crafted poem, written in aabb rhymed heptametric verses for the pleasure and admiration of the reader. An excellent excercise in the production of a story-in-poem, and the necessary skill in its application. It's good to tie in one's ancestry too. Beautifully written Nancy, blessings, Roy
