Dear Deepwater,
War anyhow is not good in human life. There is no place to take glory. If one side wins, other side gets pain. There is no guarantee of life therefore, in your poem there is said

"Before the charge I leave this note and hope and pray it gets back home"

This proclamation came because there is not certainty of life. You have written very beautiful with putting selective words and picture. Thanks and regards. Kamal

It deserves a six stars I wish I had. An excellent realistic poem
about the horror of war, all young soldiers are in the same situation,
kill or get kill, brutal choice throughout the whole human history. Bravo.

Fantastic poem. Expressive and creative with great visual imagery. Good comparison between the thoughts of the soldiers from various countries. I like the way you repeated the word gray. Well thought out. Good rhymes.

I feel a special connection to this poem, because my grandfather fought in France in WWI. It's a very sad poem, and I think it was creative of you to show the irony in both soldiers being possessed of the same thoughts. I liked that you didn't let the poem get political, but simply stated what each was fighting for, and how each was a unique young man, bravely facing the real possibility that they might well die that very day. I think we have no idea what kind of courage it took to go into battle. Thank you for this.

Thius is really a moving work and made me feel cold with dread. There is too much of these wars and killing as you write. Excellent anti-war piece. thanks

Excellent! Excellent! this poem is so well written. The structure is original and interesting. I felt the fear in the both the soldiers, just boys trying to be brave men.
Great job and thanks for sharing.

History is the same on either side. First an artillery barrage. Then a charge in hand to hand combat - bayonet to bayonet. rifle to rifle- the sound of machine guns. Perhaps this a lucky day for both. Perhaps it is not.

An extremely well written piece of poetry that leaves a deep impression. Such a horrid thing is war and such young brave men that put their life on the line, and what i like about this poem is u highlight it happens on both sides. great work

This poem, so appropriate on the 100th anniversary, shows very well the futility and mutual destruction of war, how both enemies suffer and die the same. And how little we have learned the lesson since.
