I can only imagine the wonder of visiting the house on the beach that your dad built. It sounds like it was a ton of fun to go to and have fun playing out there. Sorry to hear that your grandma didn't have a will when she had passed away and that your parents had sold their land.

I'm not quite sure why you mom was upset with you on playing a song she had never heard though. Why did she swat you? Was it the type of song the teacher had taught you that made her angry?

Hey, thanks for coming by rewardless. Just as I have created stuff on FS, I also created my own music at times even as a young boy. I was doing that for my Mum's enjoyment at home instead of practising what I was supposed to be doing...the set pieces from my teacher. I played by ear for years. Sadly the ears don't work no more! Got it now?
reply by DSchlosser on 27-Dec-2020
Yes, I understand more now. I wonder how things would have been though if she would have let you completely pursue your own music. I obviously haven't gotten through the whole book, so I await to see where you ended up in life.

I just wish I had the wherewithal to reward your continuing loyalty, but you were gone so long and I did promote the book a few times over the years. Thanks anyway. Ask away any questions. I am honoured you are prepared to go through it. I am trying to decide whether to put a couple of the earlier pictures on the pages they belong to or just do fig numbers right through and have some pages of pictures at intervals through the book.

Later in High School you will see a well-known Music master (and a sometime conductor of Sydney Symphony Orchestra) used me to helptune up the school band because of my gift and he was later encouraging me towards becoming a conductor,...trouble is that ould n ot have worked out and I will let you see why later.

Rewards come in different ways. My reward is to read a good story. I'm not as worried about the point system on Fanstory and to compete and try to boost everything to a harrowing and stressful degree. I don't have the money or time to compete with the top writers, but I also want to just read what appeals to me or to see what my friends have written over time.

So, don't worry if I only receive the satisfaction of reading the chapters.
reply by DSchlosser on 27-Dec-2020
That would have been a nice honor to be asked to tune the band. My sister had similar things happen to her in her life. She's sort of like you in the respect that both our parents were musical and that she showed great talent. She's currently a music teacher for a grade school and high school, and she's learned to play something like 11 different instruments.

I, of course, lack any sort of musical talent.

Did you see the Acknowledgement page for my book you are going through? You got a mention for all those years back you did some reviews for my book.
reply by DSchlosser on 28-Dec-2020
I have not. I will look it over later. I know I got through about 5 or more chapters, but I know you changed up a lot of the story around the time I had headed offline. I will check it out hopefully tomorrow though. I'm grateful if you put me in it. Hopefully I wasn't too much of a crazy critic back then.

Asbestosis and stuff like lead paint was never an issue back in the day. They just didn't know anything about it then.

Weekeneder soup sounds delicious.

Your dad make you a playground and my grandpa made bikes. If you wanna see some cool bicycles my parents have them.

And they're deception of your fishing skills made you feel good, though. I know someone who has small children and when she plays her gaming systems they always want to play too. The one day she gave them a controller. Little did they know their controllers weren't plugged in. She was in the next room, where she could see the tv, and played the game. The kids thought they were doing great, they were advancing level, collecting stuff, etc. It was all her. The kids had no power but they certainly felt good about themselves.

It's funny how something like the Weekender can mean so much to us and bring back such good memories. It's things like that that leave a lasting impression on us forever.

I'm not a music/piano player. I have no rhythm and I probably never will.

Thanks again Meaghan. I so appreciate you coming all the way back for this. Still trying to come up with a Foreword for the book hehe. I recently had a Skin cancer removed from my head which I point right back to the days of doing my music on the beach without head covering. If you look back through my Facebook Time line you should see the awful scar from the surgery. SO glad they are covering up the kids' heads now. Sankey_Sig2016 photo sankey_2016.gif

I'm slowly getting the chapters in order Dr Sankey bear with me as it might take me awhile to get all the way through. No SPAGS that I could see, but when I am reading I don't look for mistakes. Sincerely Anne.

Thanks Susan I thought you wuz a bloke hehe. There are some other things with rewards on atm and one new chapter for the book Introduction sorry no rewards on that now. We are gradually going through this AGAIn as Grammarly has stuffed me around especially as Jackie Franklin has said being OFF on Commas/ It is also hopeless on correct British English spelling even when we set it up that way for eg...realize and programme even though Aussies get lazy and spell program the American way! Sigh!

Dean Kuch made that for me. Tom does not like us using these on Reviews but no problem using them on our responses to reviews, At least he has not said anything.
reply by Realist101 on 11-Feb-2017
Others use them all the time! Don't worry...just fun.
reply by the author on 11-Feb-2017
Yeah well Tom goes crook if we use them on Reviews. Something to do with using up bandwidth. If they are using them for reviews he will slap them on the wrist eventually. Here I am back for some replies and reviews. Cheers.

A wonderful tale of your young life. I enjoyed the description of the Weekender, and the wonderful times you had there. It's too bad your parents split up and took that experience from you. Also sad your grandmother ended up losing her land after she passed.

Sounds like an exciting childhood.

That's terrible. Some people have to get in and mess with what's not theirs!

It sounds like you had a very fun and good early childhood. I like how your dad built things your his young growing family to grow up playing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Barbara appreciate you all coming along through here again, I think most of you saw a lot of this before but I have added stuff. Some of the more recent reviewers are making it necessary to add more even! Sigh!

A very good story. You should join in Robyn Corum's multi -author post. It's a genius idea. One that helps the writers learn more about each other.

Most of the places in this could accept more explanation on the things you are telling. I for one like to know if dad was hurt, why everyone was upset with the new song you played, etc.

I enjoyed reading this story of your early childhood.
The pictures were a great addition.
The tales of weekender soup, whirly-jiggers, and scratching musical notes in the sand are appealing. I like trick they played on you with the fish, that was pretty good thinking.
Really good stuff.
Michael

Sankey,

This was a highly entertaining series of stories from your youth and I enjoyed them very much. I really appreciate stories from the past, and you tell them well.

Just one nit:
1.) (The) idea was to draw the staves for treble and bass.

Thank you!
