Wise words here. There are so many with fewer blessings than us!

No matter our trials we are still able to reach out with a smile, a handshake, a kind word.

It f everybody did just a little, we'd accomplish a lot!

I am so grateful to you for your kindness by taking time away from your own self, in order to read my mind-shadows and share such nice thoughts. The personal struggle I live with from PTSD, demands me to put myself in check at times. My challenge each day is very real, the pain is real and the depression at times can become a deadly victory if I choose to lose the battle. Getting in check with myself means that I need to feel compassion for others more so than myself. Selfishly, I become a stronger warrior, if you can somehow understand this? LOL! Thank you again! xo

I do understand it. I'm a retired RN and spent a good amount of time working with PTSD Vietnam Veterans in a locked ward at the V.A. hospital in Leeds, MA. I also volunteer at battered women's shelters. I admire your warrior spirit and am pleased to see this very real condition given the attention it deserves.

This is a beautifully written poem! It grabbed at my heart and made me think. Sometimes we do have our days of sadness and sorrow; then you read or see something like the things you wrote about in your poem and it makes you feel silly for complaining over something so small. Such an eye opening poem. Awesome

Sometimes we take life granted. Until something happens yo us. Like no job or no place to stay. When we that we are worse off just remember someone out there is doing worse then us.

Good rhyming couplets
A thought provoking poem. We are always so dissatisfied with ourselves even to the point of complaining and even worse, going into depression.
all we need to do is take time to think of the plight of others and we soon see how luck and privileged we are in comparison.

You've captured one of those real, but oft ignored lessons in life: there's always someone worse of than yourself. I like how you set this up with the three couplets suggesting you take a look around when things are bad. Subsequent couplets give lots of reasons why there are others doing worse than us. Then you remind us again to consider ourselves lucky. Well written; a real thinker.

Hi Sueswrite,

So true, and I wish I had a six star to give. You express so well what is all too true. I used to tell my boys, if you think you have it bad, then think again. Because there is always someone around the corner who has it a whole lot worse!

Well done.

Cheers,
Keep Smilin'.... Jax

A clear message for how to end a self pity party. Being able to find gratitude in all situations will eliminate depression. No matter how dark the cloud, if you look, you can find some light. there is always someone worse off than yourself. Focus on gratitude each day. Great poem.
