solid rhyming couplets
the alter of Baal - altar
dew-soaked fleece - add the hyphen
good alliteration in drop of dew
let's choose an army - add apostrophe for contraction of let us
in God's army - add apostrophe for possessive
You tell this story extremely well in poetic form :-) Brooke

this is very well written, Carolyn, you did an excellent job writing this poetic tale of Gideon. I don't remember this story. I remember the fleece, but not the men who drank

As I was reading the entire story of Gideon, I found so much more to his life I had actually not recalled reading before.

This is a story I'm not familiar with. I don't understand the lines about choosing an army judged on the way they drank the water. Is getting on knees a reference to praying and therefore idolizing the water?

From what I understand, an army needed to be ready at all times, the ones (the 300 chosen ones) didn't relax and drink straight from the stream, but rather remained vigilant and scooped the water and lapped from their hand. That would keep them in an upright position to be ready for battle. (Not easily ambushed or taken by surprise.) Those were the type of valiant men the Lord was looking for. It is such an interesting bio of Gideon. Shari, thanks for following this and your interest. :-) Carolyn

Carolyn, I found this parable really enjoyable to read and it was written quite well and very inventive and creative. Your rhyming couplets were done very well and neither of the rhymes were forced, labored for strained while your rhythm flowed smoothly throughout your poem. Thank you for sharing and posting this for others and may you have a good one always.
